This position functions as a senior analyst within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Child Welfare Policy Legislation and Transformation section for Native American Affairs (NAA) and Indian Outreach Services policy. The senior analyst serves as an expert on matters pertaining to Michigans federally recognized tribes and Indian organizations including implementation of the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978 and the Michigan Indian Family Preservation Act of 2013 (ICWA/MIFPA). The senior analyst will be responsible for ensuring policy objectives related to Native American children are met. The position is responsible for researching interpreting and analyzing program policy and processes to identify ICWA/MIFPA noncompliance formulate possible resolutions make recommendations and assist with implementing policy and practice changes. This position is also responsible for legislative analysis drafting of statewide communications creation of job aids and consultation. Regular collaboration and communication with Michigans federally recognized tribal
governments is expected.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a bachelors degree in any major.

Experience
Departmental Analyst 12 -Three years of professional experience including one year of experience equivalent to the experienced (P11) level in state service.

Alternate Education and Experience

Departmental Analyst 9 - 12 - Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.
