Job Description
The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is recruiting for a Cloud Services and Systems Administrator Reporting directly to DRIs Director of Cyberinfrastructure. This position is responsible for supporting and improving the technical and operational performance of DRIs Cloud instances (AWS Azure GCP) and services (M365/Office365). The successful candidate will also have experience with Linux and Windows servers (physical and virtual) running scientific and business applications virtualization workloads enterprise backup utilities web and file servers databases and various specialty systems (HPC). This position will work closely with DRIs cybersecurity team to ensure that all servers and applications meet security best practices and function optimally in DRIs segmented network environment. This in-person position is based at DRIs campus in Reno Nevada.
The ideal candidate will be team-oriented and possess a strong work ethic that includes being a self-starter and taking ownership of projects from inception to completion. Additionally the candidate will be:
- Curious highly motivated and able to independently explore and learn new technologies;
- Able to analyze existing infrastructure and service offerings and make recommendations and plans to improve replace or expand those offerings;
- Able to implement new infrastructure and service offerings in a timely manner while communicating progress with peers and leadership;
- Comfortable and capable of effectively communicating with a wide variety of people with technical and non-technical backgrounds including academic researchers and non-academic personnel.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
- 3 Years AWS administration experience Microsoft 365 or Google Cloud Platform
- 3 Years experience administering and managing Linux servers (e.g. database web (Apache NGINX) WordPress DNS(BIND) Docker; system lifecycle maintenance with Ansible and virtual templates)
- 3 Years Office365/M365 administration experience including Teams SharePoint OneDrive Exchange EntraID
- 3 Years experience administering at least one major enterprise backup vendor package
- Familiarity with industry standard security practices policies and procedures and the ability to architect and implement solutions adhering to those best practices
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact with faculty and staff across a spectrum of specialties and fields
- Must be highly motivated and a self-starter with the ability to meet deadlines handle rapidly shifting priorities and be results-oriented
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in computer science or related field from an accredited institution
- 5 Years experience administering Windows servers (e.g. file shares IIS Active Directory DNS DHCP)
- 5 Years experience administering enterprise virtualization technologies (e.g. VMware Hyper-V Citrix)
- Experience with High Performance Computing/High Throughput Computing clusters running scientific workloads
- AWS and/or Linux Certification
- Experience in an academic setting
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning models training tools emerging trends
- Experience with Citrix DaaS for desktop and application delivery

Compensation Grade/Benefits
This is an Administrative Faculty Range C position with a minimum annual starting salary of $87000 and is competitive and commensurate with education experience and aligns with similar public academic research institutions. DRI offers a benefits package that includes health dental vision life and long-term disability insurance the choice of three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts a 19.25% retirement match 24 annual leave days beginning balance of 30 sick leave days 12 paid holidays and educational benefits. Additionally there is no state income tax and no social security deduction.
