Job Description

The Hearing Resource Teacher plays a vital role in supporting Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students in their speech language cognition audition advocacy and overall social and academic development. This includes:

  • Providing direct instruction to students with hearing loss.
  • Assessing maintaining and troubleshooting Hearing Assistive Technology including hearing aids cochlear implants BAHAs personal RM systems and sound field systems.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Conducting assessments and generating comprehensive written reports.
  • Interpreting audiological and medical reports distilling them for school staff and highlighting their educational impact.
  • Maintaining up-to-date records for students with hearing loss
  • Actively communicating with school staff to ensure that the unique needs of these students are met.
  • Facilitating student transitions into kindergarten secondary and post-secondary settings.
  • Advising and providing training to school teams and parents on instructional strategies language development social/emotional development classroom acoustics and Hearing Assistive Technology.
  • Delivering habilitation services for students with cochlear implants.
Qualifications
  • Valid BC Teaching Certificate
  • Masters degree or diploma in Deaf Education
  • Certified or eligible for certification by the Canadian Association of Educators of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Proven experience working with students who have a hearing loss as well as Hearing Assistive Technology
  • Expertise in best practices strategies and technologies for educating students who have a hearing loss
  • Strong skills in oral and written communication computer technology collaborative consultation and problem-solving
