The Yukon Government is seeking a dedicated and innovative Lead Literacy Specialist Teacher to support the development of high-quality literacy instruction across our classrooms. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers administrators and curriculum staff to enhance student learning and achievement in literacy for grades K-12 students.
This position is ideal for an experienced educator who is passionate about literacy and driving instructional improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent with specialization in teaching literacy
- Possession of a Masters Degree or post-graduate coursework in early literacy reading or primary education would be an asset;
- Minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience with a focus on literacy at the primary or secondary level.
- Experience working in a collaborative and professional learning environment;
- Experience using a variety of literacy intervention strategies to support students;
- Experience coaching educators in literacy instruction and data-informed practices
- Bilingual in English and French is considered an asset.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with teachers administration and Departmental staff;
- Strong planning and organizational skills;
- Ability to critically problem-solve synthesize and use a variety of data to improve practices at the individual student classroom school Department and Territory level;
- Ability to assist with and promote Literacy Intervention in Yukon using various strategies and resources including planning and delivery of professional development (facilitating in-services workshops etc.);
- Willingness and ability to work as a member of a professional team;
- A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations People and a culturally-diverse student population;
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
