Job Description

BEMO is seeking a Shift Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible the safe efficient and timely operation of the TBM during their shift. They will be responsible for monitoring and recording the TBMs performance diagnosing and resolving issues and ensuring that the work is carried out according to safety standards and quality specifications.

Tasks

  • Maintain a safe work environment ensuring that safety standards and regulations are adhered to.
  • Production of project documentation such as Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) Material Conformance Reports (MCRs) Visual Task Sheets (VTSs) particular focus on high-risk activities to ensure adequate risk mitigation.
  • Carry out briefings such as Visual Task Sheets Start of Shifts Safety Alerts as and when required. Provide support to the Shift Manager and Supervisors preparing briefings.
  • Assist in the production and implementation of Inspection and Test Plans and associated task specific check sheets in line with project QA requirements. The Shift Engineer is responsible for filling out check sheets correctly and on time.
  • The shift engineer monitors the TBMs operation and other relevant data. They record shift reports and communicate any changes or issues to the appropriate personnel. Produce accurate records for quality safety and production and other relevant information.
  • Participate in Sensible Monitoring Safety Quality and wellbeing inspections and manage raising of observations.
  • Assist in optimization to maximize efficiency through a good understanding of shaft sinking/TBM operation mechanics and processes.
  • Contribute to weekly material reconciliations supporting the Shift Manager with any reporting on material stock and usage.
  • Assist the Shift manager with management of sub-contractors involved in the works. Tracking productivity against programme reporting hours and resources. Reporting impact of any delays both as a record of operations and for the construction programme.
  • Assist in site preparation for VSM/TBM Assembly & Launch including planning survey and setting out of work areas.

Requirements

  • Engineering Degree/Higher National Certificate (HNC) or similar in a construction discipline.
  • 2 year(s) experience with onsite experience in the Civil Engineer/Construction Industry.
  • Relevant CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
  • Good understanding of quality safety and environmental methodologies.
  • SMSTS

Good to have:

  • Working towards becoming chartered or member of a relevant institute.
  • Experience of Slurry tunnel boring machine operations.
  • Confined space trained
  • First Aid at Work.
