Overview:
Join a dedicated team at the Central Alabama VA Health Care System (CAVHCS) as a Medical Technologist(MT)/Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT). This role is ideal for professionals with broad clinical lab experience who are passionate about serving Veterans and delivering high-quality diagnostic services. This is a 1 year Contract with a 4 year option to extend.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform testing across all major lab disciplines: Chemistry Hematology Blood Bank Immunology Urinalysis and more.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Accurately document and report test results using LIS systems.
- Ensure compliance with VA CLIA and Joint Commission standards.
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to support patient care.
Requirements
- Bachelor s degree in Medical Technology Clinical Lab Science or related field.
- Board certification as MT MLT MLS or CLS by ASCP or AMT.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a generalist in a clinical lab setting.
- Experience in Microbiology preferred.
- Must pass credentialing and background checks per VA standards.

Conduct diagnostic testing in accordance with VA protocols. Maintain quality control and participate in proficiency testing. Follow all laboratory safety and infection control procedures. Participate in ongoing competency assessments and audits. Support training and orientation of new lab staff as needed.
Education
Certification by ASCP or AMT (MT, MLS, or CLS). Bachelor s degree and completion of a clinical practicum. At least 1 year of experience in a generalist role. Must complete VA credentialing and meet all regulatory requirements
