Schedule: This position is expected to cover for vacation and any other absences as needed in all jobs and on all shifts and days. We will give at least a 24-hour notice of change of schedule.

Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs. (Base schedule when not needing to cover other departments is Monday Tuesday Wednesday and rotating Friday & Sunday.)

Position Summary:

  • This position is responsible for covering shifts for all positions within the Hatchery for vacation and any other absence. Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • 1st shift & 2nd shift Hatchery Worker: Cleans and sanitizes the hatchery with a pressure washer. Places approximately 1500 chick boxes weighing an average of 2 pounds into washer to be washed and sanitized. Washes and sanitizes the dirty side box room with a pressure washer

Set eggs in setters and inspect chicks in hatchers. Responsible for assessing chicks comfort level by analyzing vent temperatures and normal traits of chicks every hour and a half until chicks are pulled. Setting eggs into 13 setters weighing approximately 700-1300 pounds by push/pulling. Clean and sanitize hallways rooms docks break areas and restrooms (15%).

  • Processing: Grades approximately 60000 chicks. Operates robot to vaccinate and beak trim approximately 2000 chicks per hour per customer order.

Performs toe trim on approximately 8000 chicks for identification purposes if required.

Stack and move approximately 600 boxes of processed chicks.

Performs dubbing on combs and dotting heads on approximately 8000 chicks for identification purposes (15%).

  • Egg Trayer: Must be able to read write and perform simple math to assist Shipping Clerk with preparing international egg shipments. Transfers up to 100 or more cases of eggs from a pallet and stack up to approximately 5 feet high onto another pallet and label cases. Assist Shipping Clerk with preparing domestic egg shipment and moves approximately 25-50 farm buggies full of eggs on/off the egg truck and into proper place within the Egg Room daily. Assist with egg sets and inventory of eggs and buggies and moves setters buggies to the proper place. Keeps hatching eggs separated by flock and line type. Maintain a clean and organized work area (15%).
  • Embrex: Preparation of Embrex equipment. Transfers eggs to Embrex machine approximately 1300 times weighing 30 pounds for vaccination. Checks for rotten or broken eggs and upside down eggs. Transfers eggs from setters to hatchers and injects vaccines into eggs per customer order. Pull setter buggies on casters full of eggs into Embrex room weighing approximatelypounds. Cleaning Embrex equipment with a water hose and cleans and disinfects hallway using a pressure washer. Prepares hatchers to be turned on by attaching necessary information for what is in the machine (15%).
  • Pull Crew: Pad approximately 1500 empty chick boxes weighing approximately 2 pounds each.

Lift box of 100 chicks weighing approximately 15 pounds and put into stacks of 10 1500 times per shift.

Push 10 stacked boxes with birds averaging 15 pounds per box into a row approximately 150 times. Push/pull hatcher baskets on casters full of chicks into Pull Room weighing approximatelypounds. Place up to 150000 chicks weighing approximately 40 grams each onto belt. Must take hatcher baskets off stacks of 15 high. Each basket weighing approximately 35 pounds. This does require overhead lifting. Put empty trays weighing approximately 10 pounds into tray wash machine. Take clean empty trays out of tray washer and restack into stacks of 15 high approximately 1300 times (15%).

  • 1st shift 2nd shift & 3rd shift 2nd shift Sanitation (rotating): Washes and sanitizes 26 setter buggies using a pressure washer. Place approximately 2520 egg flats weighing 506 grams into a washer to be washed and sanitized. Washes and sanitizes approximately 42 farm buggies using pressure washer. Place approximately 1500 chick boxes weighing an average of 2 pounds into washer to be washed and sanitized. Dumping cull eggs pulling empty farm and setter buggies to the Egg Room and washing and sanitizing both sides of the pull room and the dirty side box room with pressure washer. Cleans and sanitizes the hatchery with a pressure washer. Washes troughs on Wednesday and Thursday with a water hose. Washes and sanitizes the dirty side box room with a pressure washer. Cleans and sanitizes the hatchery with a pressure washer. Washes and sanitizes the dirty side box room with a pressure washer. Set eggs in setters and inspect chicks in hatchers. Cleans and sanitizes the hatchers and hallways with a pressure washer Cleans and sanitizes the holding room box room and approximately 200 dollies weighing up to approximately 5 pounds. Pull approximately 42 buggies of empty hatcher trays weighing approximately 150 pounds back to the hatcher rooms. Reads setters and hatchers every three hours. Pulls out approximately 36 stacks of 40 chick boxes for the Pull Crew (15%).

Other Duties Responsibilities and Activities

  • Other duties responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. Such as: Janitor: Maintains offices breakroom restrooms and showers including floors walls windows and dusting/cleaning shelves and desks in order to ensure everything is kept in a clean sanitary and orderly condition. Launder towels and clothes to maintain an adequate supply for up to 45 employees. Read temperatures and turn-failures in setters and read temperature and humidity in incubators every three hours help wash and foam rooms using a high-pressure hose and regular water hose pull loaded setter buggies on casters weighing approximately 700-1300 pounds maintain boot washes and hand sanitizer operate box washer maintain a clean and organized work area. Properly euthanize weak/ill chicks in accordance with company policy. Helps Sanitation when needed (10%).

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements/Safety

  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens ducks birds etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and stack chick boxes (wheeled dolly) weighing up to 12 pounds and will regularly be required to push or pull stacks of boxes up to 125 pounds. Will regularly be required to pull/push 700 to 1300 pounds (wheeled dolly). Must be able to obtain scissor lift certification. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. Must have good communication skills to accurately convey with supervisors as well as convey opinions and concerns.
  • Tools and Equipment: N/A
  • Environment: Required to work on wet slippery surfaces and in hot dry dusty wet and cold environments.
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles face shield chemical gloves waterproof apron and rubber boots are required. Ear plugs will be used as needed. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed. Safety glasses are required.
  • Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants and foamers.
  • Safety: TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication Respiratory Protection LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. TM is expected to identify address and mitigate safety related risks.
