Description

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSSrelated work Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada by Canadians.

Reporting to the Manager Financial Planning and Analysis (Seaspan Shipyards) the Financial Intern is supporting in delivering financial planning & analysis across the three shipyards at Seaspan Shipyards. This position collaborates with teams across operating divisions to consolidate financial data for the reports and analyze results. The ability to clearly communicate the results very strong attention to detail excellent interpersonal skills flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities are essential for this role.

Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at2 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.

What youll do

  • Assist in the preparation of high-quality internal executive reporting and board materials.
  • Assist in the quarterly forecasting and annual budgeting cycle by preparing data templates consolidating department inputs generating reports validating data for accuracy and consistency and preparing executive presentations.
  • Work closely with senior analysts to prepare detailed variance reports comparing actual performance against budget and forecast.
  • Support the preparation of the weekly Shipyards KPI report.
  • Support the preparation of the weekly cash flow forecast.
  • Under the guidance of the Manager FP&A and senior analysts help to develop and/or maintain detailed process and procedure documentation where necessary.
  • Perform additional ad-hoc analysis and other duties as assigned such as targeted financial analysis modelling and data investigations to support business cases or special projects. Demonstrate initiative in problem-solving and a proactive approach to uncovering insights.

What youll bring

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in finance or accounting is required.
  • Good understanding of all three financial statements: Income Statement Balance Sheet and Cash Flow.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a business/financial analysis role with preference to candidates with experience working in a complex multi-business environment is considered an asset.
  • Work well under pressure and can prioritize multiple tasks to meet aggressive deadlines.
  • Very strong attention to detail critical thinking problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication with ability to communicate with others with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to capture and synthesize data into relevant metrics and measures for analysis.
  • High level of proficiency in Excel (lookups pivot tables index match) and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using BI tools (SAP BI Power BI or equivalent). Experience working with query and data connectivity is considered an asset.
  • Enjoy a hands-on role and dig into the details.
  • Being Proactive. Self-motivated to learn new concepts and participate in new projects.
  • Ability to collaborate in virtual and in-person environments.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: Monday September 8th 2025.

End Date of Internship: Friday December 19th 2025 (4-Months).
