Description

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSSrelated work Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada by Canadians.

The Intern Piping and Mechanical Planning will support the Detail Planning team in developing and maintaining work packages for production execution and implementing engineering changes. Reporting to the Detail Planning Supervisor the intern will assist in planning piping and mechanical activities during manufacturing ship construction and system commissioning.

Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at50 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.

What youll do

  • Review and interpret technical drawings 3D models and Bills of Materials to support planning activities.
  • Understand production schedules and sequence work within planned activity windows.
  • Support the implementation of engineering changes.
  • Coordinates trade input and sequencing into work packages to align with preferred production methods.
  • Review and maintain planning data in ERP and document control systems.
  • Assist the team in maintenance of various planning trackers and dashboards.
  • Liaises with various stakeholders (Engineering Operations etc.) when required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

What youll bring

  • Studying towards a degree in engineering (mechanical manufacturing or a related field).
  • Proficient in MicrosoftOffice (Word Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience with ERP software is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software and document control systems (Navisworks and AutoCAD preferred).
  • Prior experience or coursework related to manufacturing shipbuilding industrial engineering or mechanical systems.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: Monday September 8th 2025.

End Date of Internship: Friday May 1st 2026 (8-Months).
