Job Description

Overview:
The role of a Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgery (CTVS) Surgeon Consultant MCh is vital for delivering specialized surgical services focused on the treatment of heart lungs and vascular diseases. This position combines clinical expertise with a commitment to improving patient outcomes. The CTVS Surgeon Consultant plays a central role in diagnosing complex cardiovascular conditions and providing advanced surgical interventions. As part of a multidisciplinary team the consultant leads clinicians and healthcare professionals emphasizing patient safety and quality care. Their responsibilities include performing surgeries conducting follow-up care and mentoring junior staff while engaging in continuous medical education. The CTVS surgeons work is critical for the organization as it directly impacts patient recovery enhances the hospitals reputation and contributes to research and advancements in surgical techniques and cardiovascular health. In this dynamic environment the consultant must stay abreast of the latest medical innovations ensuring optimal care delivery and fostering a patient-centric approach.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform advanced cardiovascular surgeries including coronary artery bypass grafting and valve replacements.
  • Conduct thorough pre-operative evaluations and assessments of patients.
  • Design and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs.
  • Lead surgical teams during procedures ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Monitor patient recovery and manage post-operative complications effectively.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists anesthesiologists and other specialists for comprehensive care.
  • Educate patients and their families regarding surgical procedures and post-operative care.
  • Participate in complex case discussions and offer expert opinions on challenging cases.
  • Conduct research and contribute to academic publications in cardiovascular surgery.
  • Supervise and mentor fellows and residents in surgical techniques and patient management.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and keep up to date with surgical advancements.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to strategic planning.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform hospital rounds and provide consultations in the critical care setting.
  • Promote a culture of safety and quality assurance throughout the surgical department.
Required Qualifications:
  • Medical degree (MBBS) from a recognized institution.
  • Completion of a Master of Chirurgiae (MCh) in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
  • Board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in cardiovascular surgery.
  • Proven track record of conducting complex surgical procedures.
  • Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.
  • Exceptional clinical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities.
  • Commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
  • Experience in academic or teaching hospitals preferred.
  • Familiarity with advanced surgical technologies and techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Valid medical license to practice in the respective location.
  • Research experience and publications in relevant medical journals are advantageous.
