Job Description

The Team

The Candidate Quality team consists of Data Scientists AI Engineers and Product
Managers operating as a specialized unit within SEEKs broader Artificial Intelligence &
Analytics division. We follow a quarterly planning cycle in pursuit of our mission: helping
hirers connect with quality candidates. Our work encompasses developing machine
learning models for candidate quality scoring leveraging AI to enhance role requirements
selection criteria and candidate matching and supporting candidate discovery.

The Role

As an Associate Data Scientist at SEEK youll be part of a fast-paced supportive
environment where you can make a real difference. Youll work on complex challenges that
have a direct impact on peoples lives helping us evolve our business and reach new
heights.

Successful performance in this role will be demonstrated through the business value
contributed by developed and supported products. Further the successful candidate will
be expected to stay up to date with emerging techniques in natural language processing
and machine learning and be deeply involved in a culture of continual improvement.

This role will report to a Senior Data Scientist / Principal Data Scientist within AIPS. AIPS has
a matrix structure where your direct line manager will act as a coach and technical mentor
but your day-to-day activity will be determined by the squad priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in framing data-addressable problem statements for candidatejob matching
  • Perform exploratory data analysis and help prepare datasets for modelling
  • Contribute to building and testing data transformation pipelines and baseline ML
    algorithms
  • Collaborate with Engineers and Product Managers to iterate on data products
  • Assist in developing models that can effectively identify and highlight relevant skills
    and qualifications from unstructured text data
  • Document methods results and code to ensure reproducibility
  • Share learnings and raise questions to drive continual improvement

Qualifications :

Essential Qualifications Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Mathematics Statistics Computer Science)
  • Solid SQL skills and familiarity with a distributed processing framework (Spark or similar)
  • Working knowledge of Python for data analysis and modelling
  • Understanding of core ML concepts (classification ranking recommendation)
  • Exposure to NLP techniques (information extraction semantic similarity)
  • Experience with an object orientated programming language preferably Python with experience writing production level code
  • Familiarity in code testing and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical ideas clearly
  • Curiosity and ability to learn quickly in a rapidly changing environment

Other Qualifications Skills and Experience

  • Internship or project experience with AWS services (S3 EC2 EMR)
  • Hands-on with Deep Learning frameworks (e.g. Transformers)
  • Familiarity with large-language models and scalable data architectures
  • Experience working with datasets larger than can fit in memory
