The VCU Financial Success Center by Virginia Credit Union (FSC) is dedicated to helping our community achieve financial success. It aims to increase the prominence of financial instruction research programming and monitoring among the VCU community.
The FSC provides the VCU community with free personal and professional financial education including assistance and counseling on budgeting saving credit student loan repayment career transitions and more. It supports all aspects of financial success through solutions education and research-oriented financial programs that help reduce debt and increase overall financial confidence.

Position Summary:
The VCU Financial Success Center by VACU is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates to apply for the role of Financial Coach. The Center will be hiring two candidates to fill two Financial Coach positions. The primary purpose of the Financial Coach is to guide and counsel students as it relates to personal finance matters including options to pay for college financing options with persistence to graduation budgeting building credit and minimizing debt. The Financial Coach will play an active role in creating a culture of care as a part of the students success team by fostering meaningful relationships with students and campus partners to enhance the students successful university experience.
The Financial Coach is expected to maintain a high level of professionalism accountability and collaboration with various VCU campus partners and departments. The financial coach is expected to assist in coordinating and administering the VCU Financial Success Centers financial well-being and education services while providing individual financial counseling and outreach programming. The Financial Coach will work closely with the Executive Director Graduate Assistant(s) and student staff to help manage the operations of the VCU Financial Success Center by VACU.
Please Note: This is a restricted position with funding for three years. Employment eligibility after three years is dependent upon successful performance and continued funding.
Typical Responsibilities:
Provides financial coaching for the VCU student population
Contributes to the University wide strategic goal of financial wellness
Contributes to the development of a robust outreach program including communication materials marketing & branding and various digital marketing strategies such as social media
Compiles outreach program data and provides reports on activities
Works closely with various marketing channels to grow program engagement
Develops and facilitates programming in collaboration with the team
Collaborates with a team of student workers to execute key programmatic initiatives
Develop and pilot financial literacy education for underserved student population including but not limited to: workshops in multiple settings one-to-one coaching distribution of resource lists and materials integration of financial planning technology
Continuously research and implement industry standards of best practices and successful strategies
Work collaboratively with VCU Career Bridge project care team to provide holistic student support
Attend professional development workshops webinars and conferences to stay abreast of current financial trends and best practices
Work on special projects and initiatives as needed to support the Financial Success Center and the School of Business
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Business Finance Education Social Sciences or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Quantitative and analytical skills organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience in public speaking creating presentations and social media skills required.
Knowledge and experience with personal financial planning or financial literacy
Ability to project a positive image of the University and the office at all times.
Ability to explain complex concepts in clear and concise language.
Be a self-starter with a strong work ethic and personal qualities of trustworthiness openness accessibility kindness flexibility and sensitivity.
Ability to work some weekends and evenings as well as travel locally within the Richmond area
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect professionalism and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
One to three years of relevant experience in a higher education financial wellness office
Masters degree in financial planning business counseling or related field preferred
Three years of student financial aid/financial literacy experience preferred.
CFP(R) Accredited Financial Counselor or similar designation(s) preferred.
Experience working with college student populations and knowledge on how to provide effective financial education techniques and programs
Additional Information:
Priority will be given to candidates who submit their applications by June 20th.
This is a restricted position with funding for three years. Employment eligibility after three years is dependent upon continued funding.
This position may require light travel local to the Richmond area. This could include some overnight travel. Advance notice will be given ahead of time.
Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday 40 hours per week with some evenings and weekends. This position is in-person at the VCU School of Business Snead Hall in Richmond VA however it may be eligible for a limited hybrid and flexible work schedule once training is complete and must be coordinated and approved by the supervisor of this role. Hybrid and flexible arrangements may not be possible during campus events or high student service periods.
