Job Description

WHY JOIN #TEAMRC

The City of Rancho Cucamonga is looking to hire five (5) Community Services Specialists for part-time positions with each specialist working up to 32 hours a week. These roles involve leading teams of other part-time staff members to plan and implement various Community Services Department programs and events. This work assignment will involve administrative tasks focused on program planning and preparation including support of part-time frontline staff who directly deliver programs to the community. The position will also collaborate with Program Coordinators to create staff schedules monitor vendor contracts and perform other duties related to the administration and oversight of community programs and events. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Who We Are

The Rancho Cucamonga Community Services Departments mission is to engage the community by providing opportunities to play celebrate grow and be entertained through premier programs outstanding services and a positive environment creating life-long memories. The department operates the Epicenter Sports Complex RC Family Resource Center RC Sports Center Victoria Gardens Cultural Center Goldy S. Lewis Community Center and James L. Brulte Senior Center. In addition to the above-listed facilities more than 30 different parks are open to the community for passive use park shelters and event rentals hiking trails athletic fields and city-planned special events.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING HERE AT TEAM RC

We are currently hiring five (5) Community Services Specialists.

  1. IncredABLES Inclusive Programming Specialist**:Responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of various IncredABLES programs and services. Core responsibilities include coordinating monthly Friday Night Fun Club events featuring six themed dances annually bi-monthly Life Skills Courses and the Annual Adaptive Sports Fair. Beyond regular programming this role oversees resources and referrals for the inclusive community represents the City at outreach and community fairs and actively researches current trends and best practices to enhance inclusive programming.
  2. Registration Specialist**: Responsible for providing support to the registration coordinator and guest experiences at Central Park. Duties include training and development of the Registration Team revenue handling daily deposits maintaining and reporting of grant data the Financial Assistance program inter-departmental assistance with registration printing reports AED Audits working the front desk where necessary training and assigning volunteers responding to emails and phone calls as well as any other duties assigned. This position requires some knowledge of Active Net (registration software) strong computer and organizational skills exceptional internal and external customer service attention to detail problem-solving skills and reliability. This position requires mornings some evenings weekends and all special events.
  3. Special Events Specialist:Responsible for assisting in the planning coordination and execution of large-scale city-wide events such as Lunar New Year Memorial Day Egg Shellebration Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular Movies and Concerts in the Park Spooktacular Veterans Day Ceremony Community Arts Festival Breakfast with Santa and Snowy Hula Day. Core responsibilities include assisting with event planning tracking budgets and purchases preparing service agreements and communicating with vendors community partners and internal departments. This role also supports day-of-event operations such as setting up and breaking down equipment and dcor supervising part-time staff and volunteers addressing on-site needs and actively engaging with attendees to create a fun and welcoming atmosphere. The ideal candidate is an organized proactive and creative self-starter with strong communication critical thinking and decision-making skills to support behind-the-scenes planning and the high-energy delivery of memorable community events.
  4. House Manager Specialist: Responsible for house management and guest experience in the Front of House operations for the Lewis Family Playhouse and other Victoria Gardens Cultural Center event spaces. Responsibilities include briefing and debriefing staff and volunteers for each show ensuring the orderly seating of up to 560 patrons communicating Front of House needs to the Playhouses Box Office and Theatre Tech staff and other duties as assigned. In addition to supporting productions this position works with the events and rentals team to ensure events are adequately staffed and attended and may be scheduled to support a variety of public and private events outside of regular performances. This role plays a key part in lobby engagementinteracting with patrons resolving guest issues responding to incidents and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. The ideal candidate is confident speaking with strangers comfortable giving direction to volunteers and staff and able to remain calm and solution-oriented under pressure. An awareness of safety protocols and emergency procedures is essential. Additional responsibilities include recruiting training and managing volunteers for the Playhouse; inputting and tracking volunteer hours in Volgistics (online software); communicating with volunteers about upcoming shifts; and handling various administrative duties related to Front of House operations. This position requires strong organizational skills excellent customer service attention to detail problem-solving abilities and reliability. Regular evening and weekend work is required.
  5. Team Development & Engagement Specialist**: Supports the daily operations of the Team Development and Engagement division within the Community Services Department. The role is focused on enhancing the employee experience through onboarding training and engagement initiatives for both part-time and full-time staff. Responsibilities include scheduling coordinating and administering new employee onboarding and orientations assigning and tracking training courses through HRIS software and maintaining compliance records for Human Resources and Cal-OSHA training mandates. This position will also assist in the planning and execution of development and employee engagement events including researching training content purchasing supplies and supporting event logistics. In addition to technical and administrative duties this role serves as a welcoming representative of the departmentensuring new hires feel supported informed and connected to the organization. The ideal candidate enjoys making people feel at ease is proactive in helping others succeed and takes pride in contributing to a positive organizational culture. The position also works closely with Human Resources to ensure training and onboarding efforts align with city-wide compliance standards. This role requires strong attention to detail excellent communication and interpersonal skills organizational savvy and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Comfort with technology including project management software HRIS platforms and online learning systems is essential. Regular daytime availability is required with occasional flexibility for special events training needs and weekend onboardings.

Must have the ability to work weekends evenings and holidays.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED

Education and/or Experience:

Must be at least 18 years of age have an education equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade and have a minimum of one year of experience in the coordination of cultural or recreation programs or activities or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the theories principles practices and programs common to the field of recreation and cultural arts; methods for identifying community recreation needs. Ability to effectively work with people having varied socio-economic standings; prepare concise written and oral reports; promote recreation or cultural programs; supervise volunteers.

Special Requirements:

Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California drivers license and a satisfactory driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent standing and sitting. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five pounds such as files stacks of paper reference and other materials. Moving from place to place within the office; some reaching for items above and below desk level. Strength dexterity coordination and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal occasionally.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Generally clean work environment with limited exposure to conditions such as dust fumes odors or noise. Travel throughout the City is required. Work schedule may include evenings and weekends.
