We are currently seeking a new team member for our Foster Care Program. The Foster Caretaker will provide care for the animals in our foster program while ensuring they receive proper and humane treatment. You will work independently under defined instructions while promoting SPCA Floridas vision and mission to help people and save pets. You will gain valuable experience with a diverse array of cases and work alongside compassionate foster parents. Essential Duties & Primary Job Functions: - Assist in coordinating and completing animal intakes.
- Oversee daily cleaning and feeding duties for the nursery.
- Provide excellent customer service to both current and prospective foster parents.
- Match foster families with suitable foster animals based on their skills and circumstances.
- Ensure all foster volunteers receive the necessary training and support for their responsibilities.
- Offer ongoing assistance coaching and moral support to foster families.
- Respond promptly to emails and phone calls from pet and foster parents during workdays.
- Maintain foster files and documentation for foster applications.
- Collaborate with the Foster Care Coordinator to evaluate animals suitable for the foster program.
- Work directly with the Foster Care Coordinator to determine the medical treatment needed for foster animals.
- Report any concerns from foster families to the appropriate medical team member.
- Schedule vaccine administration and medication pickups as needed with foster families.
- Maintain and track supplies for the foster program.
- Assist in the pickup and return of foster animals.
Proficiencies: - Excellent customer service skills are a must!
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public foster parents coworkers and volunteers in a professional courteous and tactful manner.
- Willingness to learn how to prepare and administer vaccines and dewormers.
- Willingness to learn how to collect blood samples to perform Feline FIV/FeLV Combo and Canine 4DX tests.
- Willingness to learn how to properly scan for microchips.
Qualifications and Skills - A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a two- or four-year veterinary technician program at an accredited college or university and have relevant computer training or experience.
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Must be in good physical and mental health capable of performing physical activities including lifting and carrying animals weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance over short distances.
- Ability to work compassionately with animals that may be fractious or may attempt to bite or scratch.
