Purpose:- To lead and support district libraries library information specialists and library activities and services to support the districts library and instructional goals. To lead library and digital learning professional learning initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Valid Texas School Librarian Learning Resources or equivalent certificate
- Masters Degree preferred
- Valid Texas teaching certificate for the position advertised
- Current ESL Certification: ESL Certification required within (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in the 2010-2011 school year
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of library methodology and current trends in library curriculum integration and instruction
- Ability to analyze develop and manage library collections
- High level of knowledge/skills in digital resources library management system(s) and educational technologies.
- Able to communicate effectively in face-to-face and virtual environments
- Exceptional human relations skills including communication and presentation skills
Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years as Librarian/Library Information Specialist (LIS) preferred
- Minimum two (2) years classroom experience in education required
- Varied grade level experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience providing training/professional development at the campus and/or district level
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management
- Provide leadership for all district libraries to strive for the highest level of standards as listed in School Library Programs: Standards and Guidelines for Texas from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
- Develop implement and evaluating annual and long-range plans for the comprehensive district wide school library program.
- Encourage a positive reading culture best practices in reading instruction and college and career readiness through library programming and resources.
- Maintain and enhance district library collections and literacy programs.
- Coach and lead library information specialists.
- Maintain support update and develop standard operating policies and procedures for district libraries and library information specialists.
- Support and expand opportunities for the equitable use of Library Commons and resources across the district.
- Support district-funded library enhancement projects.
- Lead district library management system implementation and use. Support district resource management system use.
- Oversee district-level library budgets and funding.
- Pursue grant and recognition opportunities for Alief school libraries.
- Maintain revise and expand district library curricula including information literacy and digital citizenship components.
- Provide training and support for district digital resources.
- Support a culture of of teamwork excellence and leadership for library information specialists.
- Provide leadership for library and digital learning professional development initiatives including:
- Online training sessions in both synchronous and asynchronous environments
- Face-to-Face training opportunities
- Innovative professional learning experiences
- Training documents and video resources
- Coordinate and implement collaborative programs with various departments and stakeholders to achieve goals that support library services student learning technology goals and/or district priorities.
- Displays conduct that is professional ethical and responsible.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned
