Job Description:

This is a part-time contract position for up to 29 hours per week at $22-$27 per hour. This position will start as soon as possible and the contract will end October 31 2025.

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role will provide general support to various services in the Community and Services setting of a Ministry Unit as well as take a lead in developing and launching a Dietary-Specific Food Bank for the Community in line with funding requirements from Food Banks Canada.

FUNDING-SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The incumbent is responsible for:

- Planning and launching a dietary-specific food bank for the community in line with the commitments outlined in agreement with Food Banks Canada.

- Oversee the operation of the newly developed dietary specific food bank

- Developing and managing a team of volunteers including overseeing of recruitment onboarding and training.

- Strategize and execute the purchase of culturally-relevant foods and dietary-specific foods for the food bank

- Manage food donations ensure proper storage food safety and procedures.

- Assist with the operation of dietary specific and regular food bank programming.

- Administration tasks relevant to the role.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all some or similar range of duties.
Seasonal Projects such as Back to School Drive Camp Courage Summer Camps etc.
Work in a team setting supporting various tasks and activities.
Provide general assistance during public relations events and regular campaigns.
Maintain strict confidentially of all matters pertaining to the program participants.
Adhere to policies and procedures relating to the programs.
May chaperone the students as the driver does drop offs and picks ups of the students for various programs.
May assist with different basic administrative tasks photocopy activities greeting visitors supporting reception forwarding visitors etc. as required.
May keep a log of different activities.
Assists in the organization Maintenance: and general cleanliness of the lessons area.
Assist with the Ministry Unit/facility general clean up and set up for different activities.
Provide general information to visitors.
Collaborate with Community Ministries Director to ensure effective program delivery(e.g. caf markets workshops)
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Clarification of Information. Conducts Routine Interactions.


Internal: Ministry Units leadership and staff donors volunteers. Share updates about the dietary specific food bank with the congregation of Encounter Church.


External: Clients donors general public social services organizations service clubs

- Create awareness in the community about the dietary specific food bank.

- Survey the community and gather statistics on dietary needs and cultural specific foods relevant to the local community to guide the dietary specific food bank project.

- Develop local partnerships with businesses and charities in a spirit of collaboration to support the sustainability of the dietary specific food bank.

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the Community Ministries Director.
Direct reports: Volunteers possibly Community Services - Special Project Worker.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
Minor material responsibility (proper use of food proper file handling etc.)
Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources within the outlined budget.
Little input to annual budget or revenue projections.
The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Armys Mission Statement in a professional manner upholding our code of conduct.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working environment is typically in the food bank building in generally agreeable conditions and some outdoor duties.
Some work over weekends and evenings may be required.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
May deal with upset people or challenging behaviours.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
Education Qualifications and Certifications:
Education or experience relevant to the duties outlined in the job description
CPR First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.
Experience and Knowledge:
One to two years of relevant experience
Comfortable using and maintaining a digital database
Knowledge and skill in social media platforms and management
Experience in event planning
Skills and Capabilities:
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor volunteer and organizational information
Creative and flexible with the ability to adapt based on team program and service needs.
Represent the organization in a positive professional and engaging manner.
Exhibit good listening and interpersonal skills have strong oral/written communication skills.

Both VSC & CRC are required.

Main working location is: Encounter Food Bank and Community Services at 345 Pleasant Street Dartmouth NS

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.11 to $21.38 with a maximum of $25.66.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
