SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Selects and organizes materials (print and non-print) to enrich and support the curriculwn by making these materials available to students and staff.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides instruction in library skills.
- Provides individual assistance to students doing research work.
- Selects materials for the library with input from teachers.
- Possesses and catalogues materials (print and non-print) for circulation.
- Maintains card catalog.
- Keeps students and teachers informed concerning the arrival of new materials.
- Develops a library use schedule with the approval of the principal.
- Does minor book repairs and sends books in need of major repairs to bindery.
- Coordinates the maintenance of audio-visual equipment within the budgetary limit.
- Coordinates the use of audio-visual equipment.
- Inventories library materials periodically (yearly if necessary).
- Acts as a resource in the development of bibliographies.
- Encourages positive life time reading habits in students.
- Maintains the library as a center of learning activities in the school.
- Participates in staff development.
- Prepares reports as required.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the principal.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS WORKED:
- The teacher will work in a school setting climate controlled environment adhering to School Board energy policy and in the outside areas which are subject to climate extremes.
- Work day consists of hours at assigned school site according to bargaining unit agreement.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- A certified librarian must be able to communicate in standard English both orally and in writing.
- Communication must be commensurate with age and skill of listener.
- Must have ability to accurately give and receive information via tele-communication system.
- Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with the public.
- Must be able to accurately compile and access data summarize information and provide written report to supervisor.
- Must have ability to represent school system at various public functions.
EQUIPMENT USED:
- Telephone typewriter micro computer facsimile machine calculator copy machine printers folding machines intercom and P.A. systems audio-visual equipment and distance learning equipment.
PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:
- Sitting standing walking climbing running observing and monitoring student behavior in all facets of the school environment is required during the work day.
- Must be able to operate all library equipment.
- Reaching bending lifting 10 pounds is sometimes required as well as the physical restraint of another person or persons.
- Ability to provide own transportation to school work location(s) and meeting sites.
- Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations.
MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:
- Must be able to plan and implement appropriate education programs for all students.
- Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
- Must keep accurate up-to-date library records.
- Must be able to comply with state and parish regulations.
- Must be able to utilize effective classroom anagement techniques.
HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT:
- Must be able to work compatibly in group settings.
- Must serve as a resource to administrators faculty staff students parents and community.
- Must be able to respond positively to supervision and to accept suggestions for improvement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
- School Librarian Certification
