Job Description

SECONDARY MATH TEACHER
JOBPOSITION SUMMARY
Awaken Christian Academy is committed to being a Christ-centered biblically based community serving the students and families entrusted to us. Teachers are the schools most important resource and they are the primary instructors and caregivers to the students during the day. Teachers establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible. They observe and evaluate students performance behavior social development and physical health. Individuals holding this position model Christian beliefs thoughts and actions (on and off the job) to the students as they teach. The teacher shall prayerfully help students learn attitudes skills and subject matter that will contribute to their development as mature able and responsible Christians.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
  • Observe and evaluate students behavior performance social development and physical health.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests.
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction demonstration and work time.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods such as lectures discussions and demonstrations.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons units and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Assign and grade classwork and homework on a weekly basis.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians to discuss each students progress and to address behavioral and academic issues as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws district policies and administrative regulations.
  • Prepare students to advance to the next graded level.
  • Provide modifications and accommodations to lesson plans for students on 504 plans as directed by the Intervention Specialist.
  • Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
  • Preferred: Minimum 2 years of teaching experience
Education
  • Must hold a BA/BS/Undergraduate degree in education and/or the field of study if he/she will be teaching a core subject.
  • Post-Secondary Education and experience required for non-core subjects.
Certification/ Licensure
  • Must be statewide/provincial certified as an educator and/or be ACSI certified as a teacher within one year of the hire date.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid/AED certified within 90 days of hire.
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS / ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Dependable hardworking innovative and capable of working independently.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Team oriented: willing to follow support and collaborate with team members plus have the ability to build develop and lead teams.
  • Ability to learn and work quickly and efficiently with attention to detail.
  • Speak confidently in front of others in an engaging and motivating way.
  • Organized with the ability to develop processes programs and ideas.
  • Capable of meeting deadlines on grading and curriculum.
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with educational technology and online instruction.
