Job Description

Title:Occupational Therapist (District-Wide) (SY25-26)

About Chelsea Public Schools:

The Chelsea Public Schools (CPS) is a gateway school system that welcomes and educates all students and families. The school system educates over 6300 students in 10 schools including a pre-K-1st grade school 4 elementary schools 3 middle schools and 2 high schools.CPS is a culturally responsive school district. We believe that students learn best when they are engaged in meaningful relationships that fosters and promotes high expectations and risk taking. We are a district of multilingual students where languages are an asset to student development and growth. More information about CPS can be found on our website at Responsibilities:

  • Provides individual and group therapy to designated special needs students
  • Provides crisis intervention
  • Screens referrals in conjunction with other designated school personnel
  • Participates in the prereferral process as needed
  • Consults on a regular basis with classroom teachers regarding special needs students
  • Performs other duties assigned by the District Principal or the Director of Special Education

Qualifications Required:

  1. Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education licensure as a Occupational Therapist
  2. Experience working with a diverse population
  3. Licensed as a Occuptational Therapist in Massachusetts
  4. Knowledge of: integration and inclusive models of instruction; differentiated instruction and response to intervention; curriculum modifications behavior management strategies and learning styles
  5. Ability to: perform and interpret psychological evaluations including projectives; provide individual and small group therapy to the school-age students; work closely and harmoniously with parents teachers and administrators
  6. Knowledge of special education programs and regulations
  7. Citizenship residency or work visa required

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Bilingual Spanish
  • Experience working in a school setting

Terms:

All teachers are members of the Chelsea Teachers Union (CTU). The length of the school day is 6.5 hours but subject to longer hours for schools with extended day. The number of school days are 184 days. See contract for salary information.
