Job Description

Anthropology 310: World Prehistory

The Department of Anthropology at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2025 to teach ANTH 310: World Prehistory.

Course Description

ANTH 310- World Prehistory provides an interdisciplinary overview of the major developments in the early human past. Drawing upon archaeological biological linguistic and anthropological sources this global coverage of human prehistory examines ancient cultures and societies of Africa Europe the Americas Asia and the Pacific. Explores human evolution adaptive behavior the hunter and gatherer diaspora plant and animal domestication trade the development of agriculture and the origins of states. Through cross-cultural comparisons and anthropological theory explores such subject matter as the origins of gender differences in the division of labor the role of ideology in cultural adaptation differential access to technologies economic production artistic expression and mechanisms of cultural change.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A masters degree in anthropology or a closely related field
  • Per the California State Universitys Out-of-State Employment Policy the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment

Preferred qualifications:

  • A doctorate or terminal degree in anthropology or a closely related field
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses in anthropology or related fields
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving a diverse campus community as it relates to teaching and as applicable service.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • AnticipatedHiring Salary Range: $5507 - $8000 per full-time month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

  • CSU Classification Salary RangeLecturer A - AY: $5507 - $6677 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary RangeLecturer B - AY: $6221 - $13224 per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range commensurate with education and experience.
