Payroll Officer

Overview
We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Payroll Officer to join their team. This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to take ownership of monthly payroll processes and support key compliance activities. The role is offered as a 3-month fixed-term contract with hybrid working and an immediate start available.

Details:

  • 33000 (pro rata)
  • Full-time
  • 3-month fixed-term contract
  • Hybrid working York-based office and home working
  • Immediate start available

Responsibilities:

  • Process monthly payroll for all employees ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Resolve discrepancies and ensure all payments comply with HMRC and internal policies
  • Submit RTI and statutory tax returns
  • Support year-end tasks including P11D reporting and statutory returns
  • Accurately process staff expenses and mileage claims in line with current legislation
  • Assist with cost of living pay awards and salary increments
  • Maintain employee records in compliance with data protection requirements
  • Liaise with managers and internal teams to ensure accurate payroll data
  • Provide payroll data and statistics as required for reporting

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • End-to-end payroll experience
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC procedures
  • Experience processing staff benefits and producing P11Ds
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel Word and Outlook
  • High attention to detail and strong time-management skills
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive customer-focused approach
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of accuracy
  • CIPP qualification (desirable)
