As Senior Legal Counsel you will be a trusted senior advisor and will be a part of the Canada (Commercial) Legal group reporting to the Vice-President and General Counsel and be part of CGls wider global Legal Security and Privacy team. This role supports CGls business primarily in the Province of Quebec but also across Canada and in a variety of industry sectors including banking and financial services and public sector. There will be opportunities to collaborate with executives internal clients and legal colleagues from the United States UK and Europe.
Your experience with and passion for commercial law and technology matters will make you a valued business partner and you will be engaged in the following work:
Serving as a lead legal advisor in high-value and strategic commercial agreements with a particular focus on information technology related agreements.
Reviewing requests for proposals from private sector and governmental clients.
Participating in executive-level stakeholder meetings to assess business opportunities to determine legal risks involved.
Advising stakeholders on CGls policies procedures and frameworks.
Advising on day-to-day commercial legal inquiries and regulatory compliance.
Managing and resolving contractual disputes.
Supporting other Canadian team members and international colleagues as needed.
Law degree from a recognized law school and a member in good standing of a Canadian provincial bar association in your applicable work location.
Ideally the candidate would have a minimum of 10 years experience as a lawyer in a national or international law firm and/or within an in-house legal department specializing in commercial law matters.
You bring strong executive presence inspire confidence among senior stakeholders and navigate boardroom-level discussions with clarity and poise.
Experience reviewing drafting and negotiating commercial contracts; information technology-related contracts experience in particular is an asset.
Strong analytical negotiating and drafting skills.
Effective prioritization and ability to manage multiple legal issues.
Practical business and legal judgment and ability to balance business needs and risk.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative fast-paced and dynamic environment.
