This role supports the State Veterinarian by conducting fieldwork and enhancing the Animal Health and Welfare Program. It also shares subject matter expert (SME) duties with another field Assistant State Veterinarian across multiple species and program areas.
Lead field investigations and serve as SME for:
Bovine Programs (e.g. TB Brucellosis Trichomoniasis)
Swine Programs (e.g. Pseudorabies PEDv PRRS)
Poultry Programs (e.g. NPIP Avian Influenza)
Foreign Animal Disease (FAD) Investigations
Cross-train in other critical areas: equine aquaculture rabies/public health animal welfare disease traceability federal grants and illegal livestock entry coordination.
Coordinate and serve as liaison for the Arizona Livestock Incident Response Team.
Supervise one administrative staff member.
Support outreach and training with agencies counties tribes and youth groups (e.g. FFA 4-H).
Assist with emergency preparedness and inspections (livestock meat poultry dairy eggs).
DVM or VMD degree with Arizona veterinary licensure (or eligibility).
Knowledge of state/federal animal health laws USDA regulations ZFAD and NAI.
Skilled in communication field investigations and livestock/poultry handling.
Ability to prioritize multitask and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
Must maintain confidentiality and drive a state vehicle for field duties.
