You will work as part of the Net Zero Team supporting the delivery of climate action at HES and helping with the development of the next HES Climate Action Strategy 2026 which will be the successor to theHES Climate Action Plan 2020-25 gaining skills in measuring and monitoring carbon emissions and using this data to support carbon reduction initiatives across HES.

Key Responsibilities of this role
Your day-to-day duties will include:
Working with the Net Zero team to support with the gathering measuring and analysing carbon data from a variety of sources which contributes to our statutory reporting requirements.
Working with the Net Zero team on delivering the final year of the HES Climate Action Plan and developing the new Climate Action Strategy and Carbon Management Plan gaining experience in the range of HESs Climate Change work and learning how to develop climate action projects and activities.
Learning how crucial sustainability and climate action are to heritage and culture and how heritage and culture can contribute to sustainability and climate action.
Preparing case studies blog posts and articles for the Historic Scotland Members Magazine Intranet and other publications on HESs responsible tourism climate change and sustainability work gaining practical experience in writing for our key audiences.
Collaborating with members of the broader Climate Change Team on various projects such as biodiversity sustainable travel and circular economy.
Contributing to the Climate Change Team outreach events (including corporate induction days seasonal meets and conferences) learning skills in sustainable event organisation and delivery of both in-person and virtual events.
Your role will be based at Longmore House in Edinburgh but there will be opportunity for site visits and to work with other teams in HES at other sites in Scotland.
All travel expenses will be covered for additional travel from your base location (Longmore House) and all necessary equipment will be provided.Please note your standard commute will be at your own expense.

Essential Criteria:
Strong understanding of issues related to climate change sustainability and biodiversity.
Familiarity with the concept of net zero.
Basic knowledge and understanding of carbon data management and analysis.
Excellent written and verbal communication as well as good interpersonal skills. You will be able to adjust your communication style to suit the audience and media.
Good organisational skills. You will be able to work on various projects at the same time prioritising your workload accordingly.
Ability to identify source and analyse information to produce concise well-structured and accurate written and numerical work.
