Job Description
The Division of Hydrologic Sciences at the Desert Research Institute (DRI) Las Vegas campus is seeking an NSHE undergraduate student for a summer research internship. The intern will contribute to an ongoing Maki research project investigating the relationship between near-surface humidity and terrestrial evapotranspiration in the southwestern United States. As part of the project the student will assist with collecting and processing meteorological observation data from various weather stations across the region.
This is a remote position. However the intern is expected to meet with the supervisor once a week either in person or via a virtual team call. An initial in-person meeting is preferred at the start of the internship to help establish the projects direction. The final meeting schedule will be set based on the students availability.
Required Qualifications
Must be a current NSHE undergraduate student enrolled in at least 6 credits
Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel.
Experience with data analysis languages such as R or Python.
Preferred Qualifications
Major in geoscience civil and environmental engineering or computer science.
The pay rate is $16 per hour and the internship will total 120 hours. A schedule of 15 hours per week over 8 weeks is ideal. The start date is flexible but a June start is preferred.
