Job Description

Position Title:Exceptional Learner Supervisor-504 Plan

NATURE OF WORK

South Bend Community School Corporation 504 Supervisor is responsible for facilitating supporting the coordination of and approving the development of 504 Plans. The 504 Supervisor has the role of decision-maker consultant and specialist in advising administrators teachers and other professional personnel in the development and implementation of 504 Plans. The 504 Supervisor plans for and develops staff in-service opportunities for school based 504 facilitators. The supervisor also provides advice and counsel for teachers and principals on matters pertaining to the development of a 504 Plan and informs such school personnel who are responsible for carrying out the adaptations and modifications as written in the 504 Plan. Under limited supervision performs a variety of supervisory and administrative tasks necessary in monitoring and assisting in plan development. The 504 Supervisor monitors the overall effectiveness of student plans and ensures all are implemented within federal state and local regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilitates the implementation of the approved Section 504 Policy.

Develops continually revises and ensures the implementation of consistent Section 504 procedures.

Provides ongoing training and support to district staff regarding Section 504 and the implementation of the Section 504 procedures.

Collects and maintains all Section 504 data (504 plans and lists of eligible students) for reference purposes.

Facilitates the provision of reasonable accommodations for district employees with disabilities within Section 504 regulations.

Serves as a daily resource to district administrators building level teams and community members regarding Section 504 issues.

Coordinates Section 504 grievance procedures as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director of Exceptional Learners.

Serves as the school districts secondary liaison to the Office of Civil Rights. (OCR complaint resolution and corrective action plan implementation as directed by the Executive Director of Exceptional Learners).

Advises the Executive Director of Exceptional Learners regarding Section 504 compliance issues and needs.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Preferred: Masters degree in administration special education elementary/secondary education social work or the equivalent commitment to attain within a specified time period.

Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act implementation in the K-12 environment.

Ability to work constructively within a team environment as well as the ability to communicate effectively with administrators principals teachers students and parents.

Exhibits a broad knowledge of the principles and practices of school administration and of current educational trends in curriculum and instruction.

Possesses the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Works collaboratively with school coordinators and administrators.

Works towards developing an improved understanding of adolescents educational needs on the part of teachers administrators and parents.

Designs professional development opportunities that align with the districts mission and goals.

Stays abreast of current educational developments and the literature; participates in the affairs of state and national professional societies.

Assists in developing strategic plans for improving student achievement.

Maintains open communication with all levels of school system hierarchy; serves as liaison between schools and the various departments within the Central Office; maintains regular contact with other directors to exchange ideas share information and develop plans.

Serves as a member of the district-wide planning teams.

Performs other related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of federal state and local policies and procedures as pertains to Section 504.

Knowledge of South Bend Community School Corporation Policies and Procedures.

Knowledge of the organizational and communication channels of South Bend Community School Corporation.

Knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal state and local laws rules and regulations.

Skill in team building.

Skills in oral and written communication.

Ability to assess the needs of children.

Ability to develop and implement policies procedures and standards within the curriculum areas.

Ability to maintain complete and accurate records.

Ability to articulate necessary communications to large groups of people.

Ability to professionally interact with all members of the community.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders.
