Job Description:

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Program and Service Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all interactions with children parents co-workers and external relationships are mission-focused.

  • Provide spiritual and religious care to children families and staff on a multi-faith multicultural basis to meet the overall goals of spiritual and religious care as established by The Salvation Army.

  • In consultation with the Executive Director coordinate and facilitate programs to maintain delivery of spiritual and religious care to children families and staff including chapel services classroom programs special events etc.

  • Participate in the development of goals and objectives for spiritual care programs as well as evaluation process for continued improvement.

  • Provide regular reports to the Executive Director.

  • Assist as needed in preparation of reviews spiritual care literature reports etc.

  • Ensure information is provided to families and staff regarding available spiritual and religious care.

  • Have knowledge of other faith groups beliefs and practices and maintain a connection to community faith and spiritual group leaders for appropriate referrals and support of staff & families as needed.

  • Provide on-site support as needed to children their families and staff members.

  • Develop and implement the Spiritual and Religious Care Program Plan to guide operations and evaluation protocols.

  • Maintain documentation standards including a spiritual history assessment individual goals and progress notes when spiritual and religious care service is provided.

  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • Maintain standards of The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures of Small Blessings Early Childhood Development Centre and Professional Practice Standards for spiritual care delivery.

Human Resources:

  • May assist in oversight of community clergy and outside groups as needed.

Health and Safety:

  • Work in compliance with Provincial regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.

Critical Relationships:

  • Internal relationships:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Executive Director other staff families volunteers.

  • External relationships:

Community Clergy Community faith-based groups.

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position reports to the Executive Director.

  • Annual PEAC review will be completed by the Executive Director.

  • Computer literacy with word processing spreadsheet and database skills.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a part time position of 3 days per week with average weekly hours of 15 per week.

  • The working conditions are such that to meet the operational needs job flexibility is as it relates to hours of work and work schedule.

  • Normal location of work is Small Blessings Early Childhood Development Centre.

  • Attendance at staff and/or departmental meetings as scheduled.

  • Be able to lift/move up to 20 pounds as .

The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Armys Mission Statement in a professional manner exemplifying Christian standards of conduct.

Education and experience Qualifications:

  • Theological/biblical training from an accredited university theological school or seminary.

  • Ordination or good standing in ones faith community.

  • Spiritual care and/or pastoral counselling experience.

  • Specialized training with a recognized chaplaincy or spiritual care education body (i.e. Spiritual & Religious Care Certificate from Booth University College or equivalent and/or minimum of 2 Units of Clinical Pastoral Education (i.e. CASC) and/or combination of education & experience that includes a minimum of 1 Unit of Clinical Pastoral Education.)

  • Basic First Aid and CPR/AED training.

  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening a NB Social Development Check and Enhanced Security Clearance that is satisfactory to The Government of New Brunswick and The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required. The screening is secured through a local police detachment of the RCMP and through Social Development.

  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum 1-year experience in spiritual/religious care and/or equivalent experience.

  • Additional education training and experience in Early Childhood Education is an asset.

Competencies and Attributes

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to multifaith groups and practices.

  • Maintain own professional and personal development through attendance and participation in continuous education programs In-services workshops etc.

  • Adhere to all Salvation Army policies directives and operating guidelines.

  • Strong interpersonal time management and oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity good judgment and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.

  • Attentive listening skills.

  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the organization.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $19.67 to $24.59 with a maximum of $29.51.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
