Scope of work
Under direct supervision provides centralized support according to AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses) AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation) CDC (Center for Disease Control) FDA (Food and Drug Administration) OSHA (Occupation Safety and Health Administration) and department policy in the areas of terminal sterilization and sterilization monitoring systems decontamination and disinfection preparation of surgical instrument trays durable patient care equipment case cart distribution and the maintenance of predetermined inventory levels and dispensing and distribution of sterile and non-sterile items from stock. Maintain quality aseptic control procedures in a continuing effort to prevent and control the spread of infection with use of established PPE. Assembles surgical instrument trays using established count sheets. Maintain loaner tray system. Responsible for all sterilizing and disinfection testing and monitoring of all sterilizers washer/decontaminators sonic cart washer with documented results. Establishes priority sterilization loads develops load configuration based on weight and mass to aid in appropriate exposure to sterilant. Builds accurate surgical case carts according to a prescribed Doctor Preference Card. Transports prepared case carts for the next day to the OR for scheduled surgical cases. Utilize the instrument tracking system in performing all required job functions.
Range of Pay
Range of pay between $18.03 and $21.71 based on experience.
Qualifications
Required High School Diploma or equivalent
Certified Registered Central Services Technician (CRCST) - IAHCSMM International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management OR Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) - CBSPD Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution within 12 months of employment required.
Must possess basic reading math and computer skills in order to access instrument tray and picklists.
Must be able to distinguish between sterile and non-sterile; assure proper packaging techniques and appropriate sterilization cycles for all items.
Must comprehend sterility maintenance have a complete understanding of the sterilization process and maintain a surgical conscience.
