The Boeing CompanyThe Boeing Company is hiring a Principal Aerodynamics Engineer (Level 5) focusing on Software Development to support the Flight Sciences Flight Manuals and Tools team based in Everett WA.
The Aerodynamics Performance group is part of the larger Flight Sciences organization and provides design and analysis support for all development and in-production aircraft within Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Our Aero Performance team is organized into four groups: Sales Support and Competitive Analysis Product Development and Fleet Support Flight Manuals and Performance Tools and Certification and Fuel Mileage. These teams contribute to the entire airplane life cycle from product development to certification production and fleet support. We work closely with other teams from Flight Sciences Sales & Marketing Product Development Flight Test and various regulatory organizations to ensure that airplanes meet design and certification requirements for all phases of flight including takeoff climb cruise descent and landing. As an Aerodynamics Performance engineer you will play an integral role in ensuring the safety performance and efficiency of current and future Boeing Commercial Airplane products.
Position Responsibilities:
Leads the performance of aerodynamic/aerothermodynamic analysis and design of flight vehicles and their components.
Establishes scope and framework for standardization of design processes and common tools identification.
Leads the development for improving vehicle performance capability and safety design and development cycle times and state of the art or technology readiness level to create and validate new design and analysis processes.
Oversees analyses and testing to determine that compliance requirements.
Develops the strategy for new test processes and procedures.
Mentors others.
Works under consultative direction.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.
10 years of software development experience with knowledge of professional engineering practices (coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations) in languages such as FORTRAN or C/C.
10 years of experience working with aerospace engineering principles (Aerodynamics Airplane performance or Flight Operations).
5 years of experience in interpreting FAA Airworthiness Directives and Federal Aviation Regulations .
5 years of experience in leading an engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience in aircraft performance analysis
Development experience using Python
Experience developing software using Linux OS
