POSITION SUMMARY:
- Responsible for the organization administration and supervision in the area of the school district transportation system in accordance with state law and policies along with the school district policies
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelors degree (preferred)
- Valid TX Commercial Drivers License (or willing to obtain)
- TAPT Certification (preferred)
Experience:
- 5 years of Transportation experience
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient computer skills
- Ability to manage personnel
- Student management skills
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Budget:
- Assist the Executive Director with transportation budget and ensure that programs are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely
- Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs
- Assist in the preparation of the department budget
- Develop recommendations for future equipment and personnel needs
- Initiate purchases/bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies
- Work cooperatively with the purchasing agent to develop specifications sources availability pricing shipping and receiving parts equipment and supplies needed for vehicle repair
- Oversee budget transfers change orders and requisitions
Community:
- Maintain good public relations with the community parents students and school personnel
- Work cooperatively with special programs administrators and staff to provide transportation for special needs students
- Recommend the disposal of obsolete or worn-out vehicles and equipment and replacements when necessary
Discipline:
- Supervise the implementation of the bus monitoring system
- Implement district student management policies and communicate expected student behavior related to transportation programs
- Review student behavior reports and conduct conferences with parents students and drivers on disciplinary issues
- Assist campus administrators in coordinating bus safety programs and promoting good bus driver habits including participation in bus discipline meetings
Management:
- Interview and recommend the employment of bus drivers and monitors
- Make sound recommendations relative to personnel transfers/reassignments retention and dismissal
- Manage the district-wide transportation and vehicle maintenance program while maintaining a safe and efficient operation of the transportation department
- Evaluate the job performance of employees and absences
- Implement the policies established by federal and state law the State Board of Education and local school board policy in the area of transportation
- Compile maintain files and present all reports records and other documents required in the area of transportation
- Oversee payroll and attendance entry and records
- Compile and submit the annual Transportation State route services and operations report
- Compile and submit the annual Transportation Board Report
Safety:
- Maintain safety standards in conformance with state federal and insurance regulations and develop and implement a program of preventative safety
- Manage the process of interacting with campus administrators and parents to facilitate bus safety reports
- Advise the Executive Director about road hazards/inclement weather conditions that may impact the closing of schools
- Assist with evacuation of students and staffing during inclement weather and disasters (hurricanes floods tornadoes blizzards etc.)
- Gather information in accident investigations involving school buses and on student safety violations
- Organize and conduct in-service programs to promote a safe work environment
- Prepare and submit the TNCRCC report for the district
- Prepare and report the Districts Vapor Recovery Report
- Arrange for the appropriate disposal of used oil and antifreeze
- Ensure safe and timely operation of school zone safety lights and flashers
- Provide for testing to ensure appropriate indoor air quality in district buildings
- Serve as district contact/coordinator for hazardous leaks spills containment/recovery/disposal

- Biological exposure includes (insects mold fungi bacteria animals plants etc.) body fluids and sunlight exposure.
- Chemical exposure includes asbestos fumes vapors gases dusts smoke etc.
- Noise level in the work area environment is usually moderate. The outside environment can have extreme temperatures and humidity.
Mental Demands:
- Occasionally yet essential to this position the individual must meet deadlines with severe time constraints interacting with the public and other workers
- Occasionally the position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours direct responsibility for the safety well-being or work output of other people and multiple demands from several people
