RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal Quebec the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Qubec - Sant (FRQS).
Position summary
Under the general supervision of the Senior Clinical Veterinarian of the Animal Resources Division and in close collaboration with The Institute Facility Animal Care Committees (FACC) and Institutional Animal Care Committee (IACC) the incumbent will:
Coordinate the Post-Approval Monitoring (PAM) Program at The Institute
Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the care and use of animals in research and collaborate with the Animal Resources Division Managers veterinarians and coordinators in their implementation
Collect and compile data and statistics submit reports and make recommendations
Work on special projects and participates in various committee meetings
Perform any other related duties as required by the immediate supervisor.
General Duties
Coordinates the Post-Approval Monitoring Program as per approved The Institute policies and procedures and reports findings to the FACCs and the Senior Clinical Veterinarian
Ensures compliance at all times with all applicable regulations guidelines and policies (ex. The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC)) fosters the application of the highest standards of animal care and welfare
Observes and verifies research testing and teaching projects activities compares procedures and personnel training for approved protocols standards operating procedures policies and guidelines in the presence of the principal investigator and/or delegate
Consults with clinical veterinarians animal health technicians animal care workers FACC and IACC chairs makes recommendations submits reports to PIs and reports all findings to the FACCs
Serves as communication liaison between the researchers and the FACC upon request from the Chairs and in collaboration with the Animal Ethics Review Coordinator
Assists in the development implementation and refinement of policies and procedures and collaborates with the ARD Managers and Coordinators in their implementation
Responsible in the communication of new CCAC guidelines and policies to The Institute scientific community and the Animal Resources Division staff
Assists the veterinary team with the animal welfare assessment findings
Participates in the development and update of the content of the workshops and courses in close collaboration with the ARD Training Coordinator and the ARD Clinical Veterinarians
Performs any other related duties as required by the immediate superior and/or delegate.
Good knowledge of a variety of surgical and technical procedures
Good working knowledge of Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) guidelines provincial regulations and other applicable laws regulations and guidelines governing laboratory animal care and use
Solid verbal and written communication skills including report writing in French and in English
Excellent interpersonal communication skills service oriented and conflict management
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a variety of individuals and organizations
Demonstrates leadership abilities as well as ability in teaching and training
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint)
Familiarity with Internet and other basic research tools.
Status : Full-time
Pay Scale: $44408.00 to $82427.80. Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Work Shift: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Monday to Friday)
Work Site: Main office at the Glen site (1001 Dcarie Boulevard) and multi-site (combination of office laboratory and animal housing environment)
