Job Description

Reports To: Principal

Duty Days: 201 Days High School (10 days added to regular contract)

Wage/Hour Status:Exempt

Pay Grade:I01 Teachers Salary

Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years experience as a high school counselor with satisfactory evaluations. Katy ISD counseling experience preferred.

Primary Purpose:

Provide leadership to the campus school counseling team to support the activities and responsibilities of the campus counselors. Work collaboratively with campus administrators the Director of and the Specialist for Counseling the District Lead Counselor for high schools other high school campus lead counselors and feeder pattern counselors to ensure consistent equitable practices district-wide.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

A high school lead counselor has a reduced student caseload to provide supervision and support to the campus counseling team and registrars.

1. Act as department chair to provide ethical leadership and direct supervision to campus counseling and registrar staff.

2. Collaborate with the Director of and the Specialist for Counseling to promote procedural consistency throughout the district.

3. Possess and maintain strong subject matter knowledge of current graduation plans credit requirements and transcript evaluation procedures and serve as campus resource to counselors and faculty in these areas. Act as liaison between counselors and campus administrators as well as liaison with junior high feeder pattern counselors.

4. Attend regularly scheduled campus administrative meetings and other campus-based meetings as requested.

5. Attend lead counselor meetings and district counselor meetings as scheduled.

6. Act as campus authority on transcripts and credits to ensure compliance with district practices and procedures.

7. Assist registrars and campus counselors with transcript evaluation including foreign transcripts and spot-checking credits in accordance with procedures defined by the district Office of Counseling.

8. Ensure that all campus counselors evaluate student transcripts each semester to ensure accuracy of course placement.

9. Plan and facilitate regularly scheduled campus counselor meetings.

10. Delegate responsibilities to campus counselors regarding specialty programs as they relate to the counselors office.

11. Assist principal or principals designee in making master schedule decisions.

12. Begin and assist campus counselors with the correction of schedule conflicts and scheduling of specialty courses.

13. Collaborate with the Director of and Specialist for Counseling to ensure that ethical practices are utilized by campus personnel.

14. Attend high school lead counselor meetings.

15. Collaborate with the Director of and Specialist for Counseling and the District Lead Counselor for High Schools in assessing program and staff development needs.

16. Assist with creating and maintaining Katy ISD documents specific to school counselors.

Equipment Used:

Interactive white board computer printer copier overhead projector DVD/VCR cellular phone and other emerging technologies which are particularly unique to the assignment. Instructional and productivity software as required by the assignment

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress.
