Applied Scientist, Deep Science for Systems and Services (DS3)

AWS Deep Science for Systems and Services (DS3) is looking for world class scientists and engineers to join a team developing and inventing reinforcement learning algorithms and applying them at scale to solve customer problems. At AWS you will invent implement and deploy state of the art machine learning algorithms and systems. You will build prototypes and innovate on new representation learning solutions. You will interact closely with our customers and with the academic and research communities. You will be at the heart of a growing and exciting focus area for AWS and work with other acclaimed engineers and world famous scientists.

As an Applied Scientist you will develop novel RL algorithms optimize deep learning architectures and work closely with engineering teams to bring research ideas into production. Youll also engage with the academic community through research and open-source contributions.

Our projects span a variety of domains and learning paradigms including:

- Large-scale training and optimization of large models.
- Reinforcement learning to optimize and develop performant code.
- Feedback-based and human-in-the-loop learning



Key job responsibilities
* Design and prototype new reinforcement learning algorithms for scalable applications.
* Apply and optimize deep learning methods for complex modeling tasks.
* Work closely with engineering teams to integrate research into robust production-grade solutions.
* Conduct rigorous empirical analysis to validate models and algorithms.

Utility Computing (UC)
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations from foundational services such as Amazons Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWSs services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization youll support the development and management of Compute Database Storage Internet of Things (IoT) Platform and Productivity Apps services in AWS including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

- PhD or Masters degree and 4 years of CS CE ML or related field experience
- Experience programming in Java C Python or related language
- Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application experience

- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience in professional software development

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
