Title
Director of Treaties Lands and Resources

Executive Director
Summary
The Department of Treaties Lands and Resources is a researchbased department that promotes both Indigenous and Western sciences to gather information and knowledge so leadership and First Nations can make wise decisions. Through land-based and community activities the department works in the ethical space of engagement to listen to and promote First Nation voices. The department focuses their work to promote self-care self-determination and improved relationships for their First Nations.
The Director of Treaties Lands and Resources works with the Chiefs and Councils and the communities to develop strategic directions for research and community engagement activities. The Director builds strategic partnerships and relationships with governments government ministries industry other tribal councils universities colleges and ENGOs to build community-based and practice-based research and education programming.
The Director will seek funding opportunities and manage budgets staff and the over all effects of potential developments on community culture and well-being.

Job Duties
Develop programing and obtain funding
Manage budgets and staff
Develop and promote research partnerships.
Design implement and report on needed research projects.
Be familiar with resource development project plans in the First Nations homelands.
Be familiar with stakeholder interests and motivations.
Work with Chief and Council and their support staff to develop strategic directions for engagement with governments and resource development proponents.
Coordinate meetings with Chiefs and Councils to discuss and develop strategies that promote and protect Aboriginal and Treaty Rights culture and community well-being.
Be familiar with First Nation Ontario and Canada policies that affect Aboriginal and Treaty Rights culture and community well-being.
Engage in inter-governmental policy development where appropriate and available
Requirements
Ability to work within high level engagements with governments
Ability to adapt and adjust direction of programing
Knowledge and experience working with remote First Nations.
Understanding of the socio-ecological effects and impacts of development in the traditional territories.
Awareness of natural resources management concepts and policies
Strategic thinking skills and political acuity
Project management and event coordination experience
Cultural sensitivity.
Team leadership skills and experience
Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills.
Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Superior time management skills multitasking skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
High level of sound and independent judgment reasoning and discretion.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.
Pro-active ability to work under own initiative without direction.
Motivated individual with proven initiative.
A graduate degree related to social-ecological systems would be an asset.
