Job Description

At Young Mindz were passionate about empowering Australians with disabilities to live fulfilling independent lives. As a nationwide NDIS provider we deliver top-tier services including Supported Independent Living (SIL) & disability support work. Our goal is to provide personalised support to help individuals thrive emotionally psychologically and socially with a focus on mindfulness self-care and community participation.

Were looking for a calm confident and compassionate support professional with experience in complex mental health. In this hands-on role youll support a participant living with schizophrenia and high-needs behaviours. Based in Toowoomba the position offers a week-on week-off roster plus a $150 food allowance during your working week.

Due to the participants personal care and support needs this role is only open to female applicants only.

About the role

As a SIL House Worker you will support a woman with complex mental health and behavioural needs. You will support with managing her daily living tasks such as personal care meal preparation and routine building. Additionally you will support emotional and psychological development helping to build confidence self-esteem and communication skills while ensuring she has the necessary support to thrive both in her home and within the community.

Key accountabilities:

  • Lead day-to-day SIL operations in a person-centred trauma-informed way
  • De-escalate high-intensity behaviours with confidence and care
  • Administer or coordinate medication support (hospital liaison if required)
  • Maintain detailed behaviour documentation and reporting
  • Liaise with clinical teams and support implementation of PBSP
  • Ensure safe respectful care and a stable environment

The roster:

You will work on a rotating schedule of:

  • 1 week on (Sunday to Sunday) providing SIL support for periods during the day and stay overnight for sleepover shifts in the SIL house for 7 consecutive nights.
  • 1 week rostered off to rest and recharge.

What we are looking for

  • Background in psychiatric nursing mental health or complex behaviour support
  • Experience working with high-intensity physical and complex behavioural participants
  • Calm under pressure and skilled in behaviour de-escalation
  • Confident in managing physical/verbal aggression and complex behaviours.
  • A deep sense of empathy patience and understanding

You have or can obtain the following:

  • Blue Card WWCC and NDIS Screening/Yellow Card
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Drivers licence
  • Reliable vehicle with comprehensive car insurance

Ideal but not mandatory:

  • Cert IV in mental health or equivalent
  • Maybo Training Positive Behaviour Support or similar
