the Role
The Project Accountant is a key member of BCTs Finance and Accounting team responsible for supporting the financial and operational management of the organizations project portfolio. This position involves entering and maintaining accurate project data in the Unanet system assisting with budgeting and invoicing processes and contributing to financial reporting. The Project Accountant collaborates with senior finance staff and Project Managers to ensure that project financials are properly tracked and aligned with contractual and organizational requirements.
How You Contribute to the Team:
Unanet Systems Management
Set up and maintain project codes in the Unanet management system.
Set up and administer resource and project data including labor categories organizational units and staffing data.
Develop project plans and assignments within Unanet.
Troubleshoot issues related to project setup and timekeeping.
Track and report subcontractor invoices and timekeeping data.
Validate and ensure quality control of contract budgets and agreements.
Project Budget Management
Establish standards for ongoing budget and resource tracking across BCT projects.
Generate monthly and quarterly reports on project health budget status and resource allocation.
Schedule and facilitate monthly project check-in meetings with Project Managers.
Coordinate with the Accounting department and Project Managers on contract modifications affecting budgets deliverables scope or billing.
Monitor alignment between project budgets and actual resource utilization.
Invoicing and Compliance
Prepare and review invoices for accuracy compliance and required documentation.
Coordinate invoicing processes involving subcontractors and cost-reimbursable components.
Ensure adherence to special invoicing instructions and funder-specific requirements.
Collaborate with Contracts and Accounting teams to support timely and accurate financial reporting.
Perform these and other reasonable tasks as assigned by management in support of BCTs goals and objectives.

Educational Requirements:
Bachelors or advanced degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Comparable knowledge and skills building through professional experience may be a sufficient substitute for a degree.
Experience Requirements:
35 years of relevant experience particularly in grants or grants management.
Experience with Unanet or similar government contracting Enterprise Resource Planning solution including full project set-up and reporting is greatly desired.
Skills and Expertise:
Understanding of basic accounting principles and terminology.
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively to solve problems and manage change.
Strong organizational and project coordination skills; able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Able to meet job requirements while working in a remote work environment.
Effective interpersonal skills with the proven ability to collaborate and build relationships with clients partners staff contractors and others.
Communication Skills:
Proven ability to effectively communicate to various audiences when speaking and in writing.
Must be able to communicate collaborate and interact with colleagues in a remote work environment; must participate in virtual meetings appear on camera as needed and contribute to meeting content as required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint); experience with SharePoint and desirable.
Experience with video meetings/conferencing (e.g. Zoom Adobe MS Teams).
Ability to adapt quickly to new applications.
There are multiple factors considered in determining final pay for a position including but not limited to relevant work experience skills certifications and competencies that align to the specified role geographic location education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
BCT offers a competitive total compensation package that for this position includes a base salary between $80000 and $90000 along with a generous benefits package. BCTs benefits include heavily subsidized medical dental and vision coverage fully vested 401k plan with company match company-paid life and disability insurance plans paid family leave and a generous paid time off policy.
This is a remote position located in any of the fifty United States or Washington DC. Though we do have staff in all four time zones this role will be expected to work Eastern Time business hours.
