Job Description
Creature is an integrated design-build firm based in Birmingham AL. We specialize in delivering facilities using our proprietary Design Manufacture Construct (DMC) methodologya bold alternative to the outdated siloed methods of the traditional Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. A cornerstone of our model is our in-house Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing trades which drive speed quality and integration across every project.
Job Description:
Creature is seeking a Mechanical Operations Manager to lead and scale the operational performance of our mechanical discipline. This role is equal parts builder operator and leader. Youll design the systems that make our mechanical team high-performingfrom labor planning and logistics to field productivity and project delivery. Youll also be held accountable for the accuracy of preconstruction estimates and for helping build a backlog of profitable mechanical work working in lockstep with our Business Development and Preconstruction teams.
In the short term you may also lead select projects as a Mechanical Project Manager until the full team is built. Youll work day-to-day with Mechanical Project Managers Construction Project Managers Superintendents and MEP field personneland youll report directly to the COO.
Role Expectations:
- Own and lead all operational aspects of Creatures mechanical execution
- Develop and manage the labor planning strategy for local and traveling mechanical teams
- Ensure manpower schedules and workflows align across project teams and field crews
- Build repeatable systems that improve field productivity material flow and prefab utilization
- Take direct accountability for Preconstruction estimatesensuring mechanical scope estimates are accurate competitive and achievable
- Actively contribute to Business Development by shaping proposals supporting pursuits and ensuring projects are properly scoped and deliverable
- Help grow a backlog of profitable deliverable mechanical work that matches our field and prefab capacity
- Serve as a temporary Mechanical Project Manager on key jobs until full team structure is in place
- Lead the recruitment onboarding and development of mechanical field talent
- Track and manage performance metrics to drive continuous improvement and operational visibility
- Act as a central point of coordination between leadership project delivery and field teams
- Champion Creatures mission values and commitment to innovation in the MEP space
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 12 years in operations project management or execution within a mechanical contractor or MEP-focused construction firm
- Mission Critical experience requiredhealthcare data centers labs or other high-performance environments
- Proven success in leading field operations managing labor planning and delivering complex mechanical scopes
- Demonstrated accountability in estimating preconstruction and helping grow a project backlog
- Strong strategic and tactical thinker who can lead both systems and people
- Excellent communicator and collaborator with a sharp attention to detail
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Construction Management or 10 years of experience running projects as a Project Manager or Field Leader
