Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health & Community Services (Winnunga AHCS) is Canberras only Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service. Located in the heart of Canberra we provide trusted holistic healthcare to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the ACT and surrounding regions.
We are excited to be launching a new team under the Connected Beginnings Program which aims to give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children the best possible start before they begin school. This important initiative supports improved developmental and educational outcomes and helps ensure children are healthy confident and school-ready.
As part of this new team we are seeking a Paediatric Cultural Support Officera passionate and community-focused individual who will work alongside the Paediatric Nurse to support the social emotional developmental and cultural wellbeing of children and families accessing paediatric and early childhood services.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as a cultural connector between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and paediatric services.
Build strong trusting relationships with families to support engagement with health education and early years programs.
Provide culturally safe respectful support in navigating health and developmental pathways.
Coordinate appointments follow-ups and service referrals.
Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to promote culturally responsive care.
Participate in outreach events and community engagement activities.
Skills Experience & Attributes:
A strong commitment to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Motivation to provide high-quality culturally safe services.
Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
Current drivers licence and willingness to transport clients as required.
