Job Summary: The Interventional Radiology (IR) Circulator Nurse plays a crucial non-sterile role in supporting complex image-guided procedures. The Circulator ensures patient safety procedural efficiency and coordination among the sterile team radiologists and support staff. This role is essential for maintaining sterile field integrity patient monitoring supply management and timely documentation throughout interventional radiology procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Advocacy: Verify patient identity allergies and procedural consent.
Provide pre-procedure preparation and emotional support.
Monitor and document vital signs patient response and medications administered.
Procedure Support: Ensure room readiness including equipment supplies and medications.
Circulate during procedures to provide sterile supplies handle specimens and troubleshoot equipment.
Maintain sterile technique and infection control standards.
Prepare and administer contrast media and/or moderate sedation as authorized.
Communication & Coordination: Act as a liaison between the procedural team and external departments (pharmacy lab recovery etc.).
Communicate effectively with physicians technologists and anesthesia staff.
Document all relevant procedural details accurately in the EMR.
Post-Procedure Duties: Assist in transferring patients to recovery or post-op areas.
Perform room turnover including restocking and decontamination.
Participate in debriefs and quality improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
Required: Current RN license in the state of practice.
BLS certification (ACLS preferred).
1-2 years of nursing experience (critical care PACU or procedural areas preferred).
Strong IV skills and knowledge of conscious sedation protocols.
Preferred: Prior experience in Interventional Radiology Cath Lab or OR.
PALS certification.
Familiarity with imaging and radiation safety practices.

Ability to stand for long periods and move equipment.
Capacity to work in a fast-paced high-acuity environment.
Willingness to take call work evenings weekends or holidays as required.
