Overview of the role:
To complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. Planning preparing and delivering learning activities for individuals groups or whole class monitoring and assessing pupils and recording and reporting their progress.
Key responsibilities:
- Support challenge and extend childrens learning in partnership with the class teacher and colleagues.
- Contribute to curriculum planning and evaluation (termly weekly daily plans and IEPs).
- Prepare and organise the learning environment including room layout and resource management; value and display childrens work.
- Lead small group activities under the teachers guidance.
- Support children with SEN or EAL by implementing IEPs created by professionals.
- Accompany children on external activities such as swimming and educational visits.
- Promote childrens independence self-reliance initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Observe children and contribute to their written records.
- Ensure equality of opportunity by working in a non-discriminatory way and recognising individual differences.
- Communicate with children in a warm respectful and responsive manner suited to their needs.
- Build positive relationships with parents valuing their knowledge and encouraging involvement.
- Safeguard childrens health safety and welfare maintaining high standards of hygiene.
- Attend to unwell or injured children administer First Aid record incidents and monitor children until collected.
- Support children with complex needs including clinical procedures (e.g. administering medication catheter care) under professional guidance.
- Provide personal care for everyday activities including dressing/undressing preparing for P.E. and swimming.
- Assist with feeding children and supervise drinks liaising with professionals like Speech Therapists as needed.
- Move and handle children according to Health and Safety guidelines.
- Support mobility and independence training using equipment based on advice from professionals (e.g. Occupational Therapists).
- Assist with toileting needs including helping continent children and occasionally changing soiled clothing with appropriate staff support.
Apprenticeship Summary:
- You will work towards either your Level 2 early years practitioner or Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification across a total duration of 18 months!
- Training provider: LMP Group: online/remote learning no classroom or college day release
- An allocated tutor will support you throughout the apprenticeship!
