Indie SchoolCairnsis looking for another teacher to join our team. This position is full time and permanent.

As an independent special assistance school (Years 9 to 12) with a growing national network of campuses Indie School aims to reengage students with learning improve their literacy and numeracy skills and help them to find their future pathway whether it be returning to a mainstream school engaging in post-secondary study or joining the workforce.

Indie School provides young people with the opportunity to learn in a supportive environment using the principles of adult education: agency independence mutual respect and accountability. Small classes individual plans expertly created units of work and specialised staff assist our students to use their strengths to develop understanding and skills in their areas of challenge.

Skills And Experiences

Core Workplace Objectives

  • Preparation and delivery of programs in line with appropriate curriculum.
  • Enhancing effectiveness in the classroom through improved teacher knowledge practice and professional engagement in order to achieve improved standards of teaching and learning.
  • Ensuring the most effective use of time and resources in the delivery of classes aligned to students individual learning and pathways plans.
  • Promoting the schools alternative educational and strengths based model to ensure student goals and personal outcomes are achieved with the focus onChanging the Lives of Young People

Workplace Tasking & Key Responsibilities

Teaching duties are aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Key duties of the teacher may include but are not limited to:

  • Writing curriculum that provides adjustments for students (this requires an understanding of the QLDcurriculum).
  • Planning writing and delivering structured lessons that differentiate and personalise the learning for each student.
  • Embedding best practice pedagogy into lesson plans to engage students.
  • Working collaboratively in a small team to implement feedback.
  • Embracing opportunities to participate in coaching and mentoring programs.
  • Supporting students with a range of learning needs including disabilities behavioural disturbances Autism Spectrum Disorder ADD/ADHD low levels of literacy/numeracy and mental illness. This includes personalising the learning for individual students pursuant to the levels of adjustment of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD).
  • Collaborating to write Individual Plans for all students
  • Embedding the strategies from Individual Plans in lessons to support the needs of the student
  • Providing timely and specific feedback to students to support learning growth (particularly through formative assessment practices).
  • Assessing and reporting student achievement and progress
  • Behaviour management (including an understanding of trauma-informed practice or a willingness to gain this knowledge)
  • Building positive relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Supporting students to experience success

For this position with our company applicants must be willing and able to provide:

  • Annual National Police Checks
  • Hold a current QCT registration
