Job Description

EduTalent Group is working on behalf of a specialist independent school in West Sussex to recruit an experienced and passionate Food Technology Teacher. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop the school s Food Technology provision across Key Stages 2 4 including qualifications up to GCSE and BTEC.

This role would suit an individual who is dedicated to delivering high-quality accessible learning to pupils with special educational needs. You ll be part of a supportive and nurturing team committed to raising attainment and fostering a love of learning through hands-on creative teaching.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver an ambitious and differentiated Food Technology curriculum across KS2 KS4 including accredited qualifications.

  • Provide a safe and nurturing classroom environment tailored to the needs of pupils with SEND.

  • Plan resource and teach practical engaging and relevant food technology lessons that inspire confidence and creativity.

  • Evaluate and revise schemes of work to meet the needs of individual learners and promote strong progress.

  • Use assessment data effectively to monitor progress set targets and raise attainment.

  • Provide constructive and regular feedback to pupils to support rapid and sustained improvement.

  • Set and track individual learning targets for all students.

  • Promote excellent behaviour for learning and create a culture of mutual respect and high expectations.

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and other staff to support holistic development.

  • Communicate regularly with parents and carers updating them on pupil progress achievement and wellbeing.

  • Contribute to wider school life through extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities.

  • Manage the Food Technology department s budget and resources in line with school procedures.

  • Ensure classrooms and related areas are safe stimulating and well-maintained with up-to-date and inspiring displays.

  • Lead on department health and safety including risk assessments.

  • Undertake training professional development and appraisal to support your growth and the schools aims.

  • Participate in INSET days and relevant training during term time and occasionally during holidays or weekends.



Requirements

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Food Technology to students aged 7 19

  • Strong understanding of curriculum requirements and assessment at KS2 KS4

  • Knowledge of SEND and commitment to inclusive education

  • Ability to use a range of teaching strategies to support diverse learning needs

  • Skilled in effective classroom and behaviour management

  • Strong data analysis and target-setting capabilities

  • Confident user of ICT in the classroom and for planning/assessment

  • Collaborative and reflective approach to professional practice

Desirable:

  • A degree or specialism in Food Technology

  • SEND qualifications (e.g. autism awareness trauma-informed practice)

  • Experience working in special school settings or with pupils with complex needs

  • Understanding of SEND areas including Cognition & Learning SEMH Communication & Interaction and Sensory & Physical needs

  • Experience delivering extracurricular or enrichment programmes
