Job Description

Position: Environmental Engineer - Air Pollution Controls Emissions
Industry: Paper and Pulp - Manufacturing
Location: Franklin Virginia (Relocation assistance offered)

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Skills/Knowledge: Air Pollution Controls and CEMS

Reports to: Environmental Manager


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for all emissions monitoring data air pollution control monitoring compliance report population internal data reviews signatory/approval process management and report submission to regulatory agencies per deadlines.
  • You will be responsible for impeccable recordkeeping of reports and conversations with regulatory agencies.
  • You will be responsible for renewing permits and licenses and submitting minor and major modifications as needed.
  • You will be responsible for knowing and understanding the specifics of regulations for decisions to protect compliance in upset conditions and operator training.
  • You will coordinate regulatory stack testing with contractors and state from planning through report submission.
  • You will lead compliance surrogate updates through management of change (MOC) processes as needed.
  • You will provide third-party contractor oversight and complete QA/QC assessments of data to ensure only quality data is submitted to state organizations.
  • You will be responsible for developing requests for proposals evaluating bids choosing contractors year over year and managing both the projects and the budget of the projects.
  • You will manage contractors concerning the internal Safety Program requirements.
  • You will assist in the overall uptime of compliance monitoring equipment by coordinating with the IP Maintenance Team including entering work orders and requisitions.
  • You will be responsible for participating in all IP safety programs.
  • You will be responsible for maintaining all documentation required by regulations and all Standard Operating Procedures required for the Environmental Services operational unit.
  • You will be responsible for weekends on-call (as scheduled) to assist the mill with environmental compliance issues and during the annual wastewater discharge season.
  • You will provide weekly updates to the EHS team on work performed and propose solutions to issues as needed.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in engineering or a closely related field
  • Must have 5 to 10 years of successful environmental engineering or operations experience
  • Experience in a pulp and paper manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Air Pollution Controls and CEMS
  • Must have strong Organizational and Team-building skills
  • Excel spreadsheet building formula development macro use etc.
  • Management experience preferred with operators and/or maintenance staff
  • Ability to work remotely and be self-driven and have the ability to work in a high-pressure environment
  • Computer skills including Word PowerPoint and learning new computer programs as used internally.
  • Maintain a valid drivers license
