We are developing the future of Army Aviation with the Bell Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) part of the US Armys Future Vertical Lift (FVL) modernization effort. This position is onsite in Fort Worth.
Composite Materials and Process Engineering
The Composite Materials & Process Lab Technician will perform engineering tasks to support development production and use of composite materials on advanced aerospace vehicles.
What youll be doing as a Composite Materials and Process Engineering Lab Technician
- Working with composite test specimens including:
o Laying up bagging and curing of composite (carbon and fiberglass) and metal bonded panels; including setting up and running an autoclave.
o Operating autoclaves and presses to cure the materials.
o Machining drilling trimming and end tabbing of composite test specimens.
o Adhesive bonding with both paste and film adhesives apply primers.
- Setting up and performing mechanical tests on various test coupon configurations; mechanical testing to include both static and fatigue tests with and without strain gauges and/or extensometers over wide range of temperatures.
- Conducting Destructive Testing & Evaluation of various production aircraft components and write summary technical report of the findings and conclusions.
- Leading mini projects (Test Requests) through all stages to completion; interfacing with the customer when needed.
- Maintain computerized test routines for all test frames per Bell and Industry test standards
- Write modified test routines when necessary (Static and fatigue)
- Perform minor maintenance for test frames when needed
- Work with engineers and lab manager to determine best test methods for non-standard parts.
- Ensure adherence to all company safety procedures when working around test frames and environment chambers (heat blankets; nitrogen lines).
- Work with maintenance organization to establish and maintain preventive maintenance plan for all test frames.
Skills You Bring To this Role
- Possess a mechanical aptitude.
- Technical knowledge of the use and application of adhesives sealants primers and composites.
- Ability to perform composite layup bagging and curing machining bonding including the ability to run an autoclave.
- Ability to use all equipment commonly used for composite specimen preparation (oven grinder drill press cutting machine band saws platen press etc.).
- Possess working knowledge of mechanical testing using automated equipment and data acquisition systems.
- Be able to read and interpret material and process specifications computerized drawings and associated parts lists.
What you need to be successful
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1 years of experience working with composite materials
- Associates Degree in Engineering Technology Materials Science Manufacturing Technology or related field preferred
