Millions of listeners depend on Morning Edition and Up First to set the news agenda as they start their days. We deliver the latest national and international news stories paired with analysis to put headlines into context. Morning Edition hosts conduct in-depth interviews with the government officials and decision makers who make and influence the policies that affect peoples lives. The show also features stories about music movies and books that provoke thoughtful conversations about who we are in this world.
The right candidate for this position is committed to daily and breaking news and is eager to evolve the shows rundown throughout the afternoon and evening to bring the freshest most important stories to our listeners. They put the needs and wants of audiences first. And they believe in the mission of public media.
As our afternoon/evening Supervising Editor/Producer you will join a small team of managers who collaboratively lead our news coverage of events in the U.S. and around the world. You will ensure the show is at the leading edge of the smartest conversations across a range of issues. Duties for this position include managing a team of producers and editors; updating the shows rundown; leading a daily editorial meeting; working with news desks to cover breaking news; assigning duties to show producers editors and hosts; editing radio scripts and digital stories; framing stories and helping staff shape them; brainstorming story and segment ideas for the show; managing content creation and coordinating with other editorial NPR staff and helping to program the radio show and podcast.
This position leads the show through the afternoon and evening handing off to our overnight team. The Supervising Editor/Producer is expected to work a shift scheduled from approximately 4 p.m.. to 12:30 a.m. EST Sunday through Thursday. However it should be noted that like other staff on Morning Edition this position sometimes requires filling in on other shifts throughout the day as needed including on holidays. In addition as a manager you will be assigned direct reports and are expected to evaluate and develop the team.
This is an NPR editorial role covered under the terms of the NPR Ethics Handbook. All editorial staff are bound by this guidance. Editorial staff are defined as staff members who play a role in shaping the journalistic or creative direction of NPRs content including events.

Salary Range: The U.S. based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $00 a year plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
Benefits: NPR offers access to comprehensive benefits for employees and dependents. Regular full-time employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in NPRs benefits options.
