Title: Facilities and Maintenance AmeriCorps Member (560 Hours)


Grant Program: OYSI 22EDBDC0020010/ EAP 21EDBDC0010041


Position Summary:

The Lewis and Clark National Historical Park is recruiting one 560-HR Facilities and Maintenance AmeriCorps Member beginning July through October 2025 (560 hours 14 weeks) to be located within Astoria Oregon. Starting date is negotiable to accommodate student schedules. The member will assist with buildings trails and log preservation projects.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Trail Maintenance (30%)
    • Duties may include removing vegetation constructing log or rock drains and using hand tools.
  • Constructing Physical Infrastructure (30%)
    • Duties may include building bridges turnpikes causeways or rock retaining walls.
  • Building Maintenance (20%)
    • May include janitorial or electrical duties.
  • Tool cleaning and Repair (10%)
  • Training (10%)

Qualifications:

  • Ages 18 to 30 (up to 35 for veterans)
  • U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident
  • Must pass a background/driver check
  • Must have a high school diploma/GED
  • Ability to work outdoors hike and work in inclement weather across uneven terrain
  • Willingness to work as part of a team in an outdoor setting
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Responsible for caring for and maintaining equipment and working tools
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and up to 150 lbs with assistance
  • Current Drivers license a clean driving record and personal transportation
  • A positive attitude

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic hand tools and gas-powered motors/equipment
  • Basic knowledge of one or all of the following: carpentry groundskeeping plumbing and electrical

Duty Location:

Primary duties are performed within the Lewis and Clark National Park. With seven sites on both sides of the Columbia River in Washington and Oregon the park includes wetlands upland forests coastal dunes and prairies. Annual visitation is more than 250000 visitors.


Terms of Employment:

AmeriCorps members will complete a term of service (14 weeks) starting July 2025 through October 2025. The member must complete a minimum of 560 service hours by the end of their term. The member will receive a 30-minute lunch each day and this lunch break does not count towards AmeriCorps member service hours. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours.


Program Benefits:

$8400 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis and upon successful completion of program requirements education award amount of $1956.35


The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check.
