Job Description

SALARY: up to $22.91 per hour.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Operates a variety of heavy equipment used in composting mulching and biosolid operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates front-end loaders single and tandem axle trucks manual transmission semi-tractor and trailer biosolids spreaders horizontal grinder roll-off truck and screen machines.
  • Must be able to keep records of tonnage loads acres and fields applied by biosolid spreaders.
  • Works with other departments in the removal of snow in city streets and alleys.
  • Loads customers vehicles with material.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as requested.
  • Mandatory overtime when land application is occurring and possibly when snow removal is needed.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent or as delegated.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduate or equivalent. Two years experience in heavy equipment operations

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY:

Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to operate a variety of motorized heavy equipment and skillfully use hand-held equipment. Must be knowledgeable of City and facility safety procedures and be able to operate within their guidelines. Ability to read and write and keep written and mathematical records. Must attend and pass heavy equipment safety class within 30 calendar days. Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Ability to operate two-way radio. Ability to keep equipment clean weekly and report any damage. Must interact with coworkers and public with tact and diplomacy. Must be able to physically climb ladders on equipment. Must be able to lift at least 100 pounds. Must be able to physically clean equipment and remove materials on and from under equipment using various hand tools. Must be able to change screen on equipment.

CERTIFICATES LICENCE REGISTRATION:

Valid Indiana Commercial Drivers License (Class A Combination) with airbrake endorsement

EQUIPMENT:

Must provide own tools. Must have an adequate amount of personally owned tools to perform job functions.

The employee is occasionally required to walk use hands to fingers handle or feel objects tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required in this job include vision and the ability to adjust focus.
