Job Description

GIA physical security strategy invokes a comprehensive approach to safeguarding people client valuables assets data/information and operations from threats and unauthorized access. Under the governance of Corporate Security the Director of Global Security Operations will i.) design establish and maintain global physical security standards ii.) facilitate global physical security operations iii.) promote legal and regulatory compliance and iv.) edify organizational capability via performance of the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works closely with the Vice President Real Estate Operations to develop and execute the global physical security strategy.
  • Prepares periodically reviews and maintains global security policies procedures and post orders to facilitate a safe working environment. In partnership with global Security Managers certifies that appropriate controls are administered to detect monitor and evaluate physical security threats.
  • Develops annual departmental budget and adheres to judicious spend of Institute funds.
  • Partakes in recruiting interviewing hiring onboarding and training of new security officers.
  • Oversees global security staff to support effective and efficient operations. Evaluates personnel performance provides coaching and mentoring enables opportunities for professional development and promotion and communicates positive reinforcement or discipline as necessary.
  • Participates in corporate projects and advises on surveillance access control intrusion detection alarm monitoring and guard patrol as subject matter expert.
  • Performs on-site inspections to verify security program quality champion process improvement and remediate identified deficiencies via corrective action.
  • Conducts and/or organizes global security risk assessments makes recommendations to mitigate threats and weaknesses and compiles resulting findings.
  • Liaises with the Safety function to develop implement and exercise emergency response plans. Promotes emergency preparedness through methodical planning training and activity-based drills and simulations involving the Security team. Identifies gaps in process and establishes remediation measures.
  • Manages security incidents and crisis events. Leads the Security team in emergency situations (e.g. fire earthquake active assailant intrusion breach etc.). Coordinates with relevant stakeholders to ensure timely recovery and restoration of normal operations.
  • Undertakes and/or coordinates security investigations as appropriate and/or directed.
  • Composes and delivers safety awareness training for employees students and contract staff.
  • Provides personal protection for the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Governors.
  • Verifies safety and security incidents are reported and managed and publishes periodic analysis of trends and resulting recommendations.
  • Facilitates cooperative working relationships with local law enforcement emergency services agencies and community organizations as applicable.
  • Manages the installation maintenance and upgrade of security hardware and applications including CCTV cameras badge readers motion detectors sensors door contacts alarms cabling access control and video management systems. Provides oversight of security integrator contract services.
  • Governs access to premises and advises on authorization requests for restricted areas and/or classified material.
  • Controls physical custody of master keys maintains key records and houses the electronic lockbox repository. Prescribes opening and closing procedures by location in collaboration with global Security Managers.
  • Serves as on-call company contact 24 hours a day seven days a week.
  • Implements physical and technical security standards that balance business objectives with determined risk compliance and cost effectiveness. Sustains best practices for system access control intrusion detection and surveillance.
  • Administers the technical and operational aspects of the Global Security Operations Center including communication with international site holders and relevant law enforcement authorities.
  • Complies with applicable federal state and local regulations and restrictions relating to company operations.
  • Demonstrates pleasant disposition and demeanor collegial collaboration with colleagues and communicates calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Other duties as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises global Security Managers; conducts management duties in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to recruiting interviewing hiring onboarding and training new staff; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge Skills & Abilities)

  • Communication and decision-making (i.e. thinking through processes asking questions and articulating expectations).
  • Cultivation of sensitivity and respect in an ethnically diverse workplace establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Utilization of software applications including Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. MS Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook) Lenel (access control) Avigilon (video management) etc.
  • Comprehension of blueprints as-built plans and drawings.
  • Administration of First Aid Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Response.
  • Operation of emergency shut-off systems and equipment.
  • Facilitation of security incidents crisis events and emergency response (24x7).
  • Execution under pressure in a fast-paced environment; managing multiple priorities working independently and making decisions quickly.
  • Interaction with all levels of the organization conveying security-related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstration of strong organizational and planning skills managing resources effectively.
  • Determination to achieve common goals and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Formulation of traditional and advanced scenario planning techniques to assess risks and threats to the organization.
  • Consideration of business continuity auditing and risk management principles.
  • Accommodation for 10% domestic and international travel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree (B.S.) in Criminal Justice Law Enforcement or related field.
  • 10- 12 of prior physical security law enforcement and/or military experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of leadership or management experience in the fields of security or loss prevention.
  • Valid Guard Card and California Drivers License required. CPR certificate preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed in a designated professional office environment.
  • Extensive use of office equipment including computer calculator copier/fax and other business-related machines and software.
  • Specific eyesight required for this job includes close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Pay Range: $128K-$228K
