Do you thrive at the intersection of creativity and precision Indian River State College is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled CAD/CAM Instructor to teach the next generation of designers and manufacturers. In this role youll bring computer-aided design and manufacturing to life through engaging hands-on instruction that prepares students for high-demand careers in engineering design advanced manufacturing and digital fabrication.

Youll guide students through industry-standard software like SolidWorks AutoCAD Fusion 360 and Mastercamteaching 2D drafting 3D modeling CNC programming and more. From the classroom to the lab youll help students translate digital concepts into real-world production skills operating CNC equipment and understanding complete manufacturing workflows.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction this position teach students the fundamentals and advanced techniques of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). Develop and deliver engaging course content that emphasizes both theoretical concepts and practical applications preparing students for careers in engineering design manufacturing and related industries. Key responsibilities include providing instruction in 2D and 3D modeling CNC programming and digital manufacturing workflows using industry-standard software and tools.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instruction & Training

Teach 2D drafting 3D modeling assembly design simulation CNC programming and toolpath generation. Use industry-standard CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks AutoCAD Fusion 360 Mastercam or similar platforms. Provide hands-on training in part design tool selection machine setup and CNC machining processes. Demonstrate the integration of CAD models with CAM systems for manufacturing workflows. Supervise and assist students in operating CNC mills lathes and other machinery.

Lab Supervision

Oversee students in a hands-on lab environment guiding them through the safe use of miscellaneous equipment. Maintain lab equipment machines software licenses and consumables. Enforce strict adherence to safety standards and operational procedures in labs and workshops. Enforce safety protocols and OSHA regulations to minimize risk and accidents.

Curriculum Development

Design and update instructional content covering CAD/CAM principles software operation and practical applications. Ensure instructional materials meet educational goals and prepare students for certifications and workforce readiness.

Student Assessment

Evaluate and assess students skills providing feedback to help improve their performance and technical competencies. Administer written oral and hands-on tests to gauge student proficiency. Support students in achieving certifications where applicable.

Industry Engagement

Maintain industry connections to stay current with trends and technological advancements in general fabrication and advanced manufacturing. Liaise with local businesses and industries to ensure the training aligns with current job market needs.

Miscellaneous

Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must meet credentialing requirements set by Indian River State College.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks CAD AutoCAD Fusion 360).
  • Solid knowledge of CAM software (e.g. SolidWorks CAM Mastercam Fusion 360 CAM or similar).
  • Minimum five (5) years prior experience teaching or delivering technical training sessions in CAD/CAM or manufacturing settings.
  • Excellent communication instructional and classroom management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills patience and a passion for teaching and helping students succeed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Ability to engage and motivate participants from diverse backgrounds
  • technical expertise with a passion for teaching strong communication skills and a commitment to fostering student success.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires an ability to sit stand walk bend lift reach up stoop and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Physical skills required include the ability to lift heavy boxes and materials to move equipment from room to room and to work for extended periods at a computer station. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines such as copier fax telephone and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
