JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction this position is responsible for teaching and training students the principles and practices of dimensional measurement quality assurance and inspection technologies. Deliver theoretical and hands-on instruction covering traditional and advanced measurement methods including the use of calipers micrometers CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines) optical comparators and non-contact inspection tools. Prepare students for quality control careers in manufacturing engineering and related industries by emphasizing precision standards compliance and data analysis.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruction & Training 45%
Deliver theoretical and practical lessons on precision measuring instruments such as calipers micrometers height gauges surface plates gauge blocks and dial indicators. Conduct practical labs where students perform dimensional measurements geometric tolerancing checks (GD&T) and quality assurance tasks. Supervise students in the proper calibration maintenance and care of metrology equipment. Provide instruction on operating and programming Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) optical comparators laser scanners and other advanced inspection equipment. Teach students about international standards (e.g. ISO ASME ANSI) related to metrology and quality assurance. Emphasize adherence to inspection protocols traceability and quality documentation practices.
Lab Supervision
Oversee students in a hands-on lab environment guiding them through the use of miscellaneous measurements and inspection equipment safely. Ensure all instructional activities comply with lab safety regulations and quality control procedures. Maintain the calibration and operational readiness of all instructional metrology and inspection equipment. Maintain tools and machinery and ensure they are in good working condition. Enforce safety protocols and OSHA regulations to minimize risk and accidents.
Curriculum Development
Design update and deliver course content on fundamental and advanced metrology and inspection techniques to ensure they align with industry standards and technological advancements. Ensure instructional materials meet educational goals and prepare students for certifications and workforce readiness.
Student Assessment
Evaluate and assess students skills providing feedback to help improve their performance and technical competencies. Administer written oral and hands-on tests to gauge student proficiency. Support students in achieving certifications where applicable.
Industry Engagement
Maintain industry connections to stay current with trends and technological advancements in general fabrication and advanced manufacturing. Liaise with local businesses and industries to ensure the training aligns with current job market needs.
Miscellaneous
Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires an ability to sit stand walk bend lift reach up stoop and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Physical skills required include the ability to lift heavy boxes and materials to move equipment from room to room and to work for extended periods at a computer station. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines such as copier fax telephone and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
